“Absolutely breathtaking!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We were in this hotel as part of a two night overland shore excursion from Princess cruises - their choice of hotel could not have been better. From the moment we arrived, service was perfect. We had an "oxygenated" room, which was to help adjust to the altitude. It must have been successful - no problems at all. The Gregorian chants playing softly in the exterior hallways added to the ambiance. The grounds were beautiful - local cuisine was served, always a treat to try something new! I hated to go back to the ship!

Our travel agent Jacada travel booked us here. It is a cool place, but our room wasn't anything that special. We were way back in a corner, I mean way back- I think only 4 other rooms were on our floor back in the corner. So our room for sure didn't look like the photos the hotel posted or many of the travelers posted. No balcony, just a window (I know first world problems), but when you paid a lot of money you expect better. The internet was basically non existent back in our corner. Our friends were next door, and we both found the corner of the room that it would work somewhat.
The breakfast in the morning was great, buffet and you can order eggs. You kinda have a prod the wait staff along especially if you are going to meet your guide at a certain time. They don't come and ask if you would like to order, you have to flag them down.
At night we would go to the lobby and have a drink. Nice setting, bar staff was excellent, and friendly.
Excellent location- right in the heart of everything! easy walk to dinner, churches, people watching.

We found this classical monastery extraordinarily beautiful. We entered through a magnificent chapel and the courtyards are incredible. The rooms are a little small but well furnished and the baths are clean and modern. Our room had large double glass doors, but the view was a blank wall. We returned mid afternoon and as another review mentioned, also had what sounded like a jack hammer on the ceiling. We called the desk, and they said there was construction next door (? sounded like right above our room), and said they would tell security and the noise stopped almost immediately. Food and service was very good and the hotel is convenient within a couple of blocks of the main square.

Everything about this hotel (the building, the chapel, the courtyard, the artwork) was simply exquisite.

Our room was beautiful - with a big, comfortable bed. The buffet breakfast was exceptional. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

The location was in walking distance to the main plaza and several fun restaurants and shops.

We spent two nights in this hotel on our way from Belmond's Machu Picchu Sanctuary. We read a lot about this converted 17th century Monastery but still were taken by its classical beauty. Rooms are not big (monks' cells?) but comfortable and well finished - keeping some balance between museum style and comfortable modern amenities. From minuses, we faced some very strange notice - heavy drilling in the mid-day. I called the reception and they stopped. Also laundry was a disappointment - I gave them my trousers with little stains of restaurant souce and received them well ironed with the same exact stains. Anyway, 9 dollars will not kill me. Room service worked well. Breakfast was one of the best, I have ever encounterd. Both choice of meals and service was top class.

Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful hotel and the staff are as helpful, friendly and professional as any staff anywhere, but for $600/night it would have been nice to have a room with a window bigger than a pizza box, or a view of anything but the wall of the building next door, or wifi that worked in the room, or an exercise facility, or a sauna or a hot tub... or any of the other things that any other $600/night hotel anywhere in the world offers. Again, it was nice... just overpriced.

Room Tip: Maybe the more expensive rooms are better? I dunno...

Dear Brent,

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments about your stay with us.
As you know our hotel is a restored 16th-century monastery and important national monument, protected by the National Institute of Culture. For this reason, we cannot modify the original structure to get better views or larger rooms. We compensate that with our lovely main courtyard, personalized service and our very own art collection. You don’t need to travel far to soak up the local culture.

Thank you for choosing us and for letting us know the areas of improvement.

Best regards,

My wife and I enjoyed staying here - this was the end of our trip and was an awesome place to relax after enjoying Machu Pichu. The hotel is very close to shopping squares and some very beautiful old world churches and Inka Ruins. The Concierge was extremely helpful making suggestions about places to eat and shops.
