“Very beautiful decorated but something is missing!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in this luxury hotel.Beautiful hotel, especially the gardens are impressive. Our room was very nice and had everything you expect for a 5 star hotel. Reception and concierge very helpful. Smiling and friendly. Big choice for Breakfast and everything well presented and fresh. But if the kitchen doesn't know what "Eggs Benedict" is don't put it on the menu for breakfast. They served it as a fried egg on toast with cold ham and some sort of sauce on the side. The first night we had dinner in the restaurant. My choice was "suckling pig" and my husband a steak. The "suckling pig" was a small bone with a layer of fat! It looked awful and it didn't taste good. With a small piece of fennel and some apple on the side a disappointment. My husband's steak was certainly not the best he had during our trip in Peru. The cheapest bottle of wine for 50 dollars without tax. So-after this experience- no more dinners in the hotel.

A taxi from the Hotel Monasterio at the airport to the hotel costs 12 USD. which is very reasonable. You don't have to book ahead!

Room Tip: We have seen a few rooms. Some of them had 3 beds and that is a pity if you travel as a couple.. We...

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for share your experience with us. I appreciate your kind comments as they help us to improve. With respect to Egg Benedict at breakfast time, we have inquired about and it was confusion of the waiter who brought the wrong order to you Fried eggs with ham over a toast.

Regarding your choices at dinner, I am sorry to read your disagreement, but I can assure you that I have taken corrective measures. As a sign of our concern, I would like to offer a complimentary dinner for your next visit to Cusco.

Please accept our sincerely apologies for the food inconveniences that you had during your stay.

I hope to have you back with us soon.

“Beautiful property but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

The lobby area and grounds are stunning but we found the rooms quite noisy and had a hard time sleeping many nights. We did find the concierge very helpful in recommending and booking restaurants but overall we expected more from the staff from an Orient Express hotel. We stayed at the hotel twice (before and after our trek) and the second time checking out was a nightmare. Again disappointing.

“Pure luxury; one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

We stayed here for two nights in June; could have stayed a week. The hotel architecture is historic and stunning. The rooms are large, full of beautiful detail, and well appointed. Breakfast overlooking the magnificent courtyard was a wonderful way to wake up. As we had arrived late, we had great wines and tasty bites in the impressive and cozy library bar. They have a grand chapel. This is a gorgeous property.

Their service is stellar, with every request politely and efficiently handled. The location is ideal with a short walk to the central plaza with the Cathedral, shops and restaurant.

We will go back to Machu Picchu, and will return to Cuzco for more Inca sightseeing. When we do, we will return to the Hotel Monasterio as well.

Room Tip: This is very expensive hotel, but so worth it because of the location and its amenities. Half of th...

“Not that impressed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

I had read all of the reviews... and sadly, I was not impressed. Granted, the property/public areas were lovely with the expansive lobby/bar, multiple courtyards, paintings all around, and historical perspective. The staff were always willing to greet you enthusiastically in the halls; though rarely by name, even at the front desk where you turned in your key in multiple times a day. However, the actual room was less than average both in terms of size, view, bathroom and overall 'luxury'. It frankly could have been any hotel chain room. Frankly, I have stayed at much nicer Fairmont and St. Regis properties where both the public areas and the actual room are both lovely/stunning. The unremarkable/dull room dragged the rest of the historical property down in my estimation. I expect more from an Orient-Express property.

“Superb place, one of a kind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been to. Stunning lobby, restaurants, courtyards, extraordinary chapel, nice, comfortable rooms and bathrooms, impecable service, amazing breakfast. It is pricy (Coca Cola is $6 USD!), but again, the property is so beautiful and it is so well run that in the end, it is worth every penny.
