“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

We stayed here two nights on trip to Peru. Overall, a positive experience, flawed by lack of cooling in the room. For a luxury hotel to ask you to sleep hot is inexcusable to us.

That being said, the food quality and service here is very good. The rooms are large if in need of a bit of upgrade (long in the tooth decorations). The staff is attentive. Location in Cusco is excellent.

Room Tip: Beg for a room with balcony/patio off the street. Companions traveling with us got stuck with a str...

The Monasterio Hotel provided outstanding accomodations at a location in Cusco that could not be better. But, the main attraction is the hotel. Beautifully laid out, with gardens aplenty. Terrific staff, providing excellent service. The rooms are well laid out and very nice. Opera performances three nights a week at dinner; guitar in the morning at breakfast. We will definitely return.

A beautiful, wonderful and expensive delight of a hotel. If you can, stay here. Simply beautiful, well-sized, old-world rooms sympathetically maintained. The courtyards a exceedingly pretty and the bars and restaurants are elegant, offering very good local and international food. A generous, broad, breakfast-buffet with accompanying guitarist playing local music is a delight. Doubtless there are cheaper period-hotels, but the staff looked after an altitude-sick friend very well.

Room Tip: Chose one away from the road, it's a bit more serene.

We stayed at the Monasterio for 3 nights in a Junior suite with oxygen. We booked this online as we got a much better deal than our travel agents, who had organised our whole trip, could offer us.
It's location was perfect.
The staff were charming and couldn't do enough for us.
I am always surprised at how different guests experiences can be. Our room was fantastic. It was a duplex suite with a sitting room upstairs. Modern televisions in the sitting room and the bedroom which was concealed in a unit at the bottom of the bed. My husband had some problems with the altitude and having the oxygen was wonderful.
The breakfast was one of the best I have ever experienced.
We ate in the restaurant which was almost deserted. Served beautifully but not really exceptional.
My only complaint, which isn't really a proper complaint, is that I found the service and attention a little overbearing. In the restaurant, waiters were hovering behind us, watching our every mouthful, to attend to us as soon as we needed. I do appreciate good service but I found this uncomfortable and would have preferred to have been watched from a distance!
Also I do believe that guests would be happy to use the same bathrobe for a couple of days. I felt that clean bathrobes twice a day was a bit wasteful. Perhaps that's what we paid for!
I certainly would recommend this hotel.

My husband and I went to the Opera Dinner at the Monasterio and it was amazing. Fabulous staff, amazing beauty of the restaurant/hotel itself, the food was superb, presentation was perfect, and then you had the added benefit of the opera singing for your enjoyment. A really, really great night.

A classic! This Hotel is simply spectacular! A world of culture marries with five star service. This is the best place to stay in Cusco bar none. The accommodations are elegant and they have all the ammenities of a very modern hotel. We had the breakfast buffet and it is simply superb. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they left a bithday cake at our room. Very thoughtful of them... We really recommend it!

I stayed with my family at the Monasterio during 3 days. I have to say that this hotel is absolutely gorgeous. You cannot see that often a property with so much character. The service is maybe not the best I’ve ever seen but staff was so kind that it is definitely easy to forget small mistakes. Rooms are gorgeous ask for a room with a view on Cusco (it's worth it). Food is good; the live opera diner is pretty amazing :).
The Oxygen is the room is a great luxury due to the altitude of Cusco.
I would certainly recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Room Tip: ask for room 434 (nice view)
