“A Very Interesting and Lively Local Market”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Our local tour contact suggested this market after we told him that we liked local markets. We were not dispapointed. It was within walking distance from our hotel so we started early to see the surrounding area and then went to this market. Most of people were locals except for us and two other Americans with their guide.
We started in the fresh fruit section where there were, also, fresh fruit juices squeezed right there.
They had a big section of souvenir stores, big loaves of bread, lots of fresh meat ( they had heads of pig and sheep), vegetables and a big section of cafeteria. We did not have time to try their soup but we tried their bread. We had some slices of fresh pineapple that were so sweet. I tried some of the hard boiled quail eggs. The outfit of the local Inca people was very colorful. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to this market.

“Great Market”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

This is a great market - locals eating, crafts, flowers and nice fresh food everywhere. It was just at the end of the block from our hotel. It is covered, so great for anytime.

“Buy your Peruvian wares HERE!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

It is likely that you will be touring many a market while in the Cusco area. From Pisac to the tourist trap outside of the train station in Aguas Calientes. They are all selling the same stuff. You can get all of this at San Pedro, for a fraction of what the other markets are selling. Get your bracelets and bags and clay ware.

In addition to the tourist goods the sites of the market place are really wonderful. Hundreds of different types of potatoes, grains, vegetables, meats, fishes, fabrics...you can find pretty much everything from the market place. Buy the local salt from Maras and the aji powders. Great to cook with when you are missing Peru at home.

“The real Cusco”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012 via mobile

Where locals go to shop. You can get very affordable alpaca knitted goods (cheaper than in the stores), food (although I wondered about the cleanliness) and sll kinds of fruits & vegetables. A must see!

“now you're really in cusco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

though you will see some fellow tourists here, this is a 100% local market. have a nice long walk through every section, and then go get a juice (you can't miss the three aisles of juicers). choose your juice lady, i recommend one that smiles while she's shoving her menu in your face. afterward, go to the prepared meal area, and enjoy your lunch, which will be filling and cost about 75 cents a person. be subtle and careful about taking pictures. mostly nobody minded, except the guy who flipped me off when i took a picture of his chickens.
