Were they paid off to pretend this place was better than it was? I'm thoroughly confused. Assuming my wife and I are unnaturally harsh critics, this place might be a point higher than we recognize - but under no reasonable circumstances is this a 5-point hotel. Allow me to describe.
The floorboards were warped and creaked.
The sheets on the bed were dirty, and the bed creaked.
There were terrifying, yowling carvings posted above each bed (see photo).
There were disturbing little figurines in the unnecessarily lighted display cabinets.
The décor could best be described as "Grandma's creepy extra room."
The room was cold. The heater did not work well.
The TV was full of static and lines.
The creepy man at the front desk with swollen gums was unhelpful.
On the good side:
We did not die.
There was breathable air in the room.
The breakfast in the morning looked quite nice (we did not partake, having ordered a taxi at first light to whisk us away to Casona les Pleiades, an excellent B&B that made us feel alive again).
The lady in the morning was pleasant.
It did not cost a fortune to suffer the evening in this house of horror.
Okay, I'm exaggerating a little. But it really is cold and creepy and slightly dirty. Three points at best, four if you're highly tolerant... but in no world 5. And my wife and I did NOT stay at a fancy, expensive place - we always stay at affordable little places with character. This one had character, alright. If character is a euphemism for YUCKY.
We literally bolted out of there first thing in the morning and settled in relief at our old hotel - our mistake for ever leaving. Take a look at the photos and decide for yourself if you think I'm exaggerating... I'm not saying the place will kill you or is ridden with roaches. But it isn't comfortable, it isn't warm (either in temperature nor in subjective feeling), and it isn't someplace I would stay again.
