“For one night, this hotel was a good choice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

We were stuck in Cusco when our flight was cancelled due to poor weather. Had to return to the city to spend the night and couldn't get back into the hotel we had previously stayed in so the agency booked us into the Los Portales. It was a pleasant surprise. The staff were very friendly with such short notice of our arrival and when I said we would be checking out at 4:45 the next morning to head back to the airport, they promised breakfast would be ready for us at 4:30 so we could at least have a coffee and bite to eat before starting our day. Usually their breakfast service does not start till 5:00 a.m., they really went out of their way for us and the buffet was just great, not that one can eat much at that horrible hour.
They also arranged a taxi to pick us up in the morning and we could pay the fare by credit card via the hotel. It was a little more than the normal airport fee (we paid 25 S) but it was worth it since we no longer had any Sols left.
Our room was very small with only a shower in the bathroom and two single beds but the linens were fresh and crisp and the toiletries provided were a nice touch. Considering we were a last minute booking, it worked out just great.
I had a peek at their dinner menu and it looked quite nice with reasonable prices and a nice selection. Later in the evening I could hear people in the restaurant and it sounded like they were quite enjoying themselves, so it probably was a good spot to dine.
If I had to return to Cusco, I would recommend this hotel but try not to pay much more than $100 USD per night.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the inner courtyard which meant no exterior view. Try to avoid that if po...

Dear guest.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our hotel.

The price of the transfer is by the type of mobility that we agree to their demands. We will be happy to have it again in Los Portales Cusco ... !!!

Best regards,

Of all the hotels where we stayed in Peru, this is the one where we felt most at home. Friendly service; good food; and a great location near to sights and shopping. I would definitely stay here again.

We ate here before going to the cultural dance performance down the street. It was a nice upscale atmosphere with great food and service. We had a most enjoyable dinner. However, when it came to the bill, they assumed we were staying at the hotel, which we were not. They brought over the bill as a room charge and when we told them we weren't staying there, the waiter had to go to the front desk and have them issue a credit card charge. We were in a hurry and I didn't check the details of the bill. When we got home I realized they had charged us an 18% IGV tax which is what they charge for a hotel stay when you don't have your tourist card. It was less than 10 soles, so I'm not going to contest it with my credit card company, but it sours the nice dinner memory and causes me to doubt their honesty. I gave them a rating based on our dining experience and hope the error was just an oversight on their part, but if you eat or even stay there, make sure you check your bill carefully.

Dear guest.

Thank you for the comment about our hotel,I just want to make it clear that the staff was always honest as we are constantly assessing in Los Portales Cusco. In terms of its exoneration in power according to the law only applies if you are staying in the property.

Any doubt we are supported by the law 919.

We spent two nights at Los Portales hotel in early May as part of an Overseas Adventure Travel tour of Machu Picchu. The hotel is small, with a central interior courtyard, Several of the rooms, including ours, face the courtyard, So noise from the courtyard can be a minor issue. Our room was not spacious, but was nicely furnished, well-designed, and very clean. Everything worked as expected. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel's restaurant was very nice - our dinner there was perfect and our breakfast buffet very good. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Plaza des Armas, and several of the notable historical sites. You will enjoy staying here.

During our vacation in Peru, my girlfriend and I spent three wonderful nights at Los Portales. After spending the daytime exploring and going on tours, we would be greeted back at the hotel by its friendly staff and clean, comfortable and quiet rooms.

We actually arrived in Cusco a couple hours earlier than expected (around 10:30 a.m.), but the hotel was extremely accommodating. Of course, they gave us coca tea while getting our room ready. Within 15 minutes we were in our room getting ready for our free day in the city. We spent the next day in the Sacred Valley, returning to Cusco and the hotel at night. The area where the hotel is located felt extremely safe, and we ventured out for dinner around midnight without hesitation. Side note: As others have mentioned, the breakfast buffet was also excellent.

We spent the next two days in Aguas Calientes visiting Machu Picchu, and the hotel held my girlfriend's luggage. When we returned late at night back to Cusco and Los Portales, my luggage that United Airlines had lost was waiting for me at the hotel. The staff had sent a taxi to pick it up from the airport (they charged me a very inexpensive 10 soles). I was extremely pleased with this, and we upgraded to an available suite with an enormous bed, his and her sinks, and a very large bathtub.

We were off the next morning to Puerto Maldonado, but I can't think of one thing that could have been better at this hotel. If we ever find ourselves back in Cusco, I would definitely book a room here. A wonderful experience in a wonderful city. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you want a fantastic suite, try room 100. Enormous bathroom with his and her sinks and a very lar...
