“great restaurant in hotel but check your bill carefully”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We ate here before going to the cultural dance performance down the street. It was a nice upscale atmosphere with great food and service. We had a most enjoyable dinner. However, when it came to the bill, they assumed we were staying at the hotel, which we were not. They brought over the bill as a room charge and when we told them we weren't staying there, the waiter had to go to the front desk and have them issue a credit card charge. We were in a hurry and I didn't check the details of the bill. When we got home I realized they had charged us an 18% IGV tax which is what they charge for a hotel stay when you don't have your tourist card. It was less than 10 soles, so I'm not going to contest it with my credit card company, but it sours the nice dinner memory and causes me to doubt their honesty. I gave them a rating based on our dining experience and hope the error was just an oversight on their part, but if you eat or even stay there, make sure you check your bill carefully.

Dear guest.

Thank you for the comment about our hotel,I just want to make it clear that the staff was always honest as we are constantly assessing in Los Portales Cusco. In terms of its exoneration in power according to the law only applies if you are staying in the property.

Any doubt we are supported by the law 919.

Best regards,

We spent two nights at Los Portales hotel in early May as part of an Overseas Adventure Travel tour of Machu Picchu. The hotel is small, with a central interior courtyard, Several of the rooms, including ours, face the courtyard, So noise from the courtyard can be a minor issue. Our room was not spacious, but was nicely furnished, well-designed, and very clean. Everything worked as expected. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel's restaurant was very nice - our dinner there was perfect and our breakfast buffet very good. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Plaza des Armas, and several of the notable historical sites. You will enjoy staying here.

During our vacation in Peru, my girlfriend and I spent three wonderful nights at Los Portales. After spending the daytime exploring and going on tours, we would be greeted back at the hotel by its friendly staff and clean, comfortable and quiet rooms.

We actually arrived in Cusco a couple hours earlier than expected (around 10:30 a.m.), but the hotel was extremely accommodating. Of course, they gave us coca tea while getting our room ready. Within 15 minutes we were in our room getting ready for our free day in the city. We spent the next day in the Sacred Valley, returning to Cusco and the hotel at night. The area where the hotel is located felt extremely safe, and we ventured out for dinner around midnight without hesitation. Side note: As others have mentioned, the breakfast buffet was also excellent.

We spent the next two days in Aguas Calientes visiting Machu Picchu, and the hotel held my girlfriend's luggage. When we returned late at night back to Cusco and Los Portales, my luggage that United Airlines had lost was waiting for me at the hotel. The staff had sent a taxi to pick it up from the airport (they charged me a very inexpensive 10 soles). I was extremely pleased with this, and we upgraded to an available suite with an enormous bed, his and her sinks, and a very large bathtub.

We were off the next morning to Puerto Maldonado, but I can't think of one thing that could have been better at this hotel. If we ever find ourselves back in Cusco, I would definitely book a room here. A wonderful experience in a wonderful city. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: If you want a fantastic suite, try room 100. Enormous bathroom with his and her sinks and a very lar...

This was our favorite hotel on our trip to Peru. It is very clean. The staff is friendly. The breakfast is wonderful. The hotel has two computers you can use for free to connect with everyone back home. The location is a short walk to the Plaza and to a grocery store and the local market. The location can be a bit noisy but with my sound machine, we slept great. Definitely would return.

I was lucky to find a room at this boutique hotel in Cusco! I was looking and looking and nothing compares to this one. Conveniently located, hotel rooms was recently renovated with exquisite taste (bathroom is fabulous!), room was extremely clean and beds are very comfortable, this is ALL you need after a full day in Machu Pichu!! The personnel is always available to give a first class service.

I stayed in Peru for a little over 2 weeks and this place had the nicest hotel. It was right next to the main plaza where there was great food. The hotel itself had a nice restaurant and there was always free coco tea to drink. The breakfast buffet was also the best while in Peru. Rooms were nice and clean. Great beds and a very nice shower. Water was always warm and it actually had pressure.

Room Tip: Inca Grill down the street is amazing

I traveled to Cusco in January 2012 with my dutch family (11 dutch persons and 1 peruvian), the service in general is accord to the price that we paid.
We had problems when we paid our rooms and the meals.
I am peruvian and I understand that my husband and me, we have to pay with taxes. (because of me)
But the rest of the family also had to paid taxes for their meals when all the foreign persons in Peru, must not pay taxes (peruvian tax IGV 18%)
They excused saying that the personal of the hotel, forget to explain: if a foreign person pays with credit card, the taxes are include but if they pay with effective money, taxes not include.
