“Good Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

This is a great place to serve as a base for exploring Cusco. It is very convenient to the Plaza, the rooms (and beds!) are comfortable and quiet, but it is the staff that makes it shine. We had lots of questions and logistical issues during our stays (before and after Machu Picchu) and the staff handled them all to our complete satisfaction. They arranged taxis, recommended restaurants, shops, markets, etc. and we never had a problem with any of their recommendations (just the opposite). Their breakfast was very good too and available very early because of some guests hiking the Inca trail. This is a very good choice of hotels in Cusco because of quality, location, staff and value for the money.

We stayed here for five nights, and found the rooms to be comfortable, clean, and quiet, and the staff to be friendly and helpful (we headed off to hike to Machu Picchu at 4 AM, and they actually made coffee specially for us before we left!) The bed was enormous, and the breakfast offered the standard items on a Peruvian hotel breakfast (fruit, ham/cheese, rolls, eggs, etc.) but was just a little higher quality than some other hotels we tried. By Peru standards it's a bit pricy, but not the most expensive offering you can find. If and when I come back to Cusco, I'm definitely staying here again.

Tierra Viva Cusco Saphi is located about 3-4 blocks uphill from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco. Their breakfast was the best we had during our 9 day stay in various parts of the country. I loved the bathroom tile. The matrimonial beds were huge. . . bigger than California King size in the U.S., I think. The staff was very helpful and they were willing to store our luggage while we made the trek to Machupichu and also the day we left.

Room Tip: We had a room on the main floor just off the patio and another room on the 2nd floor just off the ot...

What a nice way to begin and end our first trip to Peru. The staff was incredible courteous and anxious to make our travel pleasant and easy. The breakfast was delicious and the chef gave you lots of variety. It was offered from 5-10am, so you were certain to leave with a full belly. The rooms were spacious and quiet; just what we needed before trekking the Inca Trail. It was close enough to the main square to get into the thick of Cusco living and sightsee, but far enough away to relax and wake to the sound of a rooster. Mucho gusto!

I spent 2 nights here in September. The front desk staff were very helpful and organized taxis for me. I had a free transfer from the airport and then I paid for the transfer back to the airport.

I was in room 212 at the back which is very quiet and private. The rooms are spacious and modern and they provide free drinks in the mini bar and free wifi.

My only complaint is that the room was very cold. The cleaning staff left the windows open so the room was always freezing cold when I got back. I borrowed a heater but it didn't really warm up the whole room. The temperature of the shower was also vary variable.

The location is good - it's a very safe street (2 police stations nearby) and only 10 minutes to the main square.

My experience overall was very postive, but just be wary of room 212 if you are visiting when the weather is not very warm.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights before and two nights after doing the Inca Trail in September 2012. It's a great place with friendly staff. Both of our rooms were great - really comfortable beds, fabulous bathrooms with the best showers I've experienced in South America. The staff looked after our bags while we were away on the Inca Trail, and the bags were waiting for us in our new room when we got back. The free wifi was mostly good, but a bit patchy. Most of the time it worked fine. The breakfast was nice, although pretty standard for Peru. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main plaza (about 3 blocks) which occasionally felt a bit far, but overall it is as a great place and well worth the extra walk.

Overnight stay 19th September 2012 after arriving from Macchu Pichu. Only a little way from the main 'plaza de armas'. Prebooked for me by my tour firm. A delightful hotel with smiling reception staff who spoke very good english, it was a sanctuary from dust and heat. My room was directly off the little enclosed courtyard, with a beautiful fountain. All amenities were clean, really comfortable, with new TV, safe included... I was impressed. A map provided, I soon found my way to suitable eateries and did not feel threatened walking at night. Prior to leaving for Lima the next day there was a well supplied breakfast buffet, then staff held my case while I toured the Incan Imperial Capital city of many hidden treasures. The only thing I had to ask for was someone to unlock the safe which I managed to jam shut with my passport inside (it was secure alright)...oops! Not a problem and done with a smile. Only downside was no restaurant (B&B). I would love to have eaten dinner without having to venture out after a full on day. Would highly recommend, and would be happy to stay longer.
