What a wonderful trip we had in Peru! We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of Ruben, his family (his wife, Tatiana, and son, Brian), and South Adventure Peru Tours. In the past calendar year, we have traveled to 7 different countries on 4 continents and have worked with numerous guides and tour companies. Ruben, without a doubt, has been the most dedicated, responsible, meticulous, punctual, and friendly travel professional we have worked with.
From the initial emails to our final departure home, Ruben made sure we had everything we needed and more. We were completely carefree for our 10 days / 9 nights trip (Lima, Puerto Maldonado, Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu). Ruben gave us tips on how to save money (e.g., bring your own snacks from Cuzco to Machu Picchu), what to tip the guides, and other things we had to be aware of. He checked in either with us, our hotels or guides to make sure we were alright every step of the way. We were always surprised to show up at a hotel or a restaurant and have the people there recognize us by name. Contacting Ruben during the trip was easy as well. He always responded promptly to any questions we had during our trip.
The hotels we stayed at were always centrally located, had friendly staff and provided great service. We could tell that Ruben really does his research work on the various tours, tour guides, and hotels before sending his clients to them. Either Ruben or Brian would pick us up or drop us off at the hotel or at the starting point of various tours. Ruben and Tatiana even walked us home late one evening, so that we wouldn’t get lost. What service!!!
We also want to thank Brian for getting us tickets to Huyana Picchu. Even though I was unable to get them on the website before the trip (they were completely sold out), Brian somehow managed to get us tickets to climb Huyana Picchu. We will be forever grateful for that once-in-a-lifetime experience. Other people we met at Machu Picchu could not believe we were able to secure tickets so late (about a month before our trip), and we could only recommend South Adventure Peru Tour to them.
At the end of our trip, Ruben had us sleep in before our flight home; he waited in his office so that we could sleep in and not have to bring our luggage (for storage) to him at 8am on a Sunday after our climb up the Huyana Picchu. Later that morning, Brian helped us bring all our luggage from the hotel to the office. To top it all off, Ruben and his family kindly invited us into their home where they prepared some delicious Lomo Saltado for lunch. We got to meet Ruben's daughter and younger son and learned more about his plans for helping out the communities in Lares Valley. The company donates 10% of the trip's cost to help the needy in Lares Valley (Ruben's hometown). Ruben hopes to one day build a small dorm for the kids who have to travel many hours each way to attend school there. We are so glad to know that our trip is also helping out so many other people. We would definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in visiting Peru.
