“Great apartments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2014

The Quinua Villa Boutique was a great choice. From the beginning, they made our trip much smoother by providing free airport pickup, and even ended up coming twice because we missed our connecting flights due to delays. The driver was very kind about it. The apartment is great, with a fully equipped kitchen that we would have loved to use if it had been the second half of our stay instead of the beginning when we wanted to try all the restaurants. Breakfast is ample, although they did get the order wrong a few times. They were happy to bring us the missing items - just make sure you have time to ask! On our last morning we just ate what they brought because we had to catch an early bus.
It was great to come back to a clean, spacious apartment with our bags waiting upon returning from our 5 day trek to Machu Picchu. The only thing is that I wish the water pressure and temperature were better and more consistent. Don't get me wrong, it was not the worst we've had in SA, but we stayed at a few other places in Peru with far better, and after 5 days of hiking and camping, it's important. This hotel is a bit more expensive than some others you can find, but we found it to be worth it.

One thing to know - as it is at the top of the city nestled among narrow streets, many tour buses cannot come pick you up at your door as advertised, so you may be walking down very early in the morning and trudging up late at night. Just so you know!

This place is an absolute gem! I stayed here for two nights at the beginning of June. From the start of my exploration via email, Bernie was super responsive and attentive to all my questions. Because I had limited time and wanted to explore Machu Pichu, Bernie arranged for my day-trip there, ensuring it was hassle-free for me. When I arrived at the Cusco airport with my friend, Bernie picked us up and took us to Quinua, settling us into our rooms before we began exploring the city.

The rooms are unique in every respect. I stayed in the Taripay Wasi, which has fantastic views of the city. My friend stayed in another room with more modern features, but was absolutely gorgeous. Each morning, they delivered breakfast to us, even when we had to leave at 6:30 AM for Machu Pichu. The staff was incredibly kind and answered all questions that we had.

The area itself, San Blas, is a great neighborhood. It's about a 10-minute walk from the central square, which for us was a good thing (to avoid the noise). But it's still very close and easy to walk to restaurants and everything else in the city.

On our final day with Quinua, Bernie arranged a trip for us to Pisac to visit the ruins and market. He hired Cristiano as our taxi driver. If you need to hire a driver while here, you should ask for him! Cristiano is incredibly well-versed on the history of the area and ancient civilizations, so while he wasn't officially a 'guide' for the area, we learned more from him than we did from other official guides on our trip. A big thanks to Bernie for making this connection.

I highly recommend the Quinua Villa Boutique. Between the incredible service the staff provides, the beautiful rooms and fantastic location, you will no doubt be pleased with your choice. Thanks to everyone at Quinua for making my short stay so memorable!

I really don't know where to start with this review - this hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in. There are only 5 rooms and we stayed in 3 of them over the course of our stay (we used this hotel as a base as we came and went on tours - they are happy to store luggage etc.). Every room we went into seemed better than the last.... And the first one was amazing!!

Each room we stayed in had two floors, with a kitchen and dinning room with a tv and then a big bed and lovely bathroom upstairs. And don't worry, no shortage of hot water, just gorgeous refreshing showers every day! :)

The ladies that work here are unbelievably helpful and will literally go out of their way to make sure you are happy and have everything you need. One evening we had just gotten back from a trip and we asked where we could buy bread and butter from for a quick snack before bed...... They only went out to the shop and bought it all for us!! They charged us 20p for going out, buying and and delivering it to us - soooo sweet if them, we did not expect this at all.

We also had a sauna in one of the rooms we stayed in and log fires in all. As it gets cold at night it is so lovely to put some logs on the fire and cosy up with a glass of wine after coming back from town after dinner. We simply loved it.

Cusco itself is about a 10min walk - all down hill. The walk down is easy. The walk back up, not so easy! We just walked slowly and stopped a couple of times. If you don't want to walk back you can always get a taxi. Also, although the main square is 10mins walk away there are some lovely bars, cafés and restaurants on the side streets on your way down 2-5 mins away. We liked to eat at these places as they had a more authentic feel, plus they were cheaper than eating on the main square!

The price for these amazing, what I can only describe as mini houses is extremely reasonable as well, we were so shocked that we paid some of the lowest prices for the best accommodations. We looked at other accommodation in Cusco and it was more expensive and not nearly as nice! This is particularly true if you book through a website such as bookings.com etc.

If we ever return to Cusco we will definitely stay here - I don't think there is a bad room! We will also recommend this place to all of our friends and family in the future, an absolute gem if a place.

Our group of five had the enjoyment of staying four nights at Quinua and was able to experience the charm of four apartments. Each apartment is artfully, tastefully, lovingly, and perfectly appointed with living and kitchen area on one floor and wonderful bedrooms on the second floor. The beds are comfortable and it was easy to add a second bed to the main floor for a younger family member traveling with us. Breakfasts are served in your room at whatever hour you request. The food was tasty, though I recommend ordering double servings of pancakes and the cereal was a little bland. Regardless, we were not limited in what or how much we could order and were happy every morning with the selection. Coca tea is regularly served and helps with the altitude. We enjoyed an electric sauna in one of the rooms, which was very relaxing. As for the service, it was generally exceptional. Christian was a delight, though we only interacted with him when he picked us up at the airport. Bernie provided wonderful tour recommendations and connected us with a fantastic private driver and tour guide to take us through the Sacred Valley. We were able to customize the trip easy in order to stop at Seminario's pottery studio. Our guide was nothing short of exceptional with an incredible wealth of knowledge. My only complaint with the entire experience was that payment was difficult. The hotel strongly encourages payment in cash, which was difficult for our group given the amount of nights and rooms we had. Paying with credit card was assessed a 5% fee, and we were charged in soles at a significantly above-market conversion rate. When we asked if the hotel accepted PayPal, they looked at us as if we had three eyes. Regardless of this bump, it was an exceptional stay and I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Recommend rooms on the second and third floors as they have the best views of Cusco!

Just book this hotel!! Hands down the best experience we had through South America and Peru!! Though we stayed here a year ago (May 2013), we remember it fondly and encourage anyone to book here.

Location: Admittedly, the Quinua Villa is a bit tough to find initially. Our taxi driver had some troubles there is only pedestrian streets access to the hotel. Because of the altitude and the uphill climb, I would discourage those with mobility issues from booking this hotel. This being said, a taxi can get within a couple minutes of the front door if you really don't want to walk! The main square is a easy 10 min (downhill/stairs) walk away, but there are plenty of restaurants and shops within 5.

Rooms: The hotel has a quaint cobblestoned central courtyard with rooms overlooking it. We stayed 1 night in Pakarina Wasi and 2 nights in Pukara Wasi. Both were splendid with a stylish Incan flare. Both dining rooms and kitchens were well equipped, copious sitting space, beds comfortable, and the spaces absolutely spotless. The differences were:
- Pakarina Wasi is a very comfortable space for 2, with a cave style interior. It was cozy and quiet despite being on the lowest floor (next to the main gates and small windows facing to the street). The internet was tempermental here. Had we not experienced Pukara, we would have been perfectly content with out stay.
- Pukara Wasi has a bed for two but big enough to have a dinner party! It is a standout because of the view. The upper floor of the apartment has a 180 degree view over Cusco, which complete lights up the night. The bathroom is more luxurious and even includes a small sauna. The lower floor alone (bedroom and bathroom) is easily bigger than a hotel room with windows to the courtyard. We felt completely at home here (in fact, we would have been happy to move right in)....

Service: The main desk is extremely helpful, there seemed to be someone there at all hours, happy to answer questions, call taxis and arrange tours. The breakfast alone warranted lots of photos. Plenty of food delivered right to your door, tailored to your requests, though hot food was limited to eggs if I remember correctly. Hot thermos full of water for tea at all times.

I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. The stay was superior to anything I could have imagined.

The hotel is placed in the most fascinating part of Cusco, close to the main attractions and places of interests. The apartments are decorated with excellent taste, with particular care to all details and the view on the city from the upper windows and terraces is spectacular.
The owner and the staff are ready to please your requests in no time and you feel pampered and special all along your stay.
The day starts with a breakfast really at your choice, served directly in your apartment and you can finish the day sitting in front of the fireplace...... simply the perfect place where to stay in Cusco!

Quinua was recommended by TWO of my co-workers and we were so pleased with our decision to stay here. The staff was nice and incredibly helpful. Bernie helped us from reservations to booking our trek to Machu Picchu (via Salkantay). During our stay we resided in two different, boutique, apartments and both had their own perks. The Casa Garcilazo room was two floors with a more traditional feel. This room had a great view of the city via a small walkout patio but was a bit noisy, I think Cusco parties all night long! Our other room was Inka Wasi, where we stayed after our trek. We preferred this room over the other actually. Located on the entry floor, it was split level with a view of the city from the kitchen. Bathroom was more centrally located (in the Casa room it was upstairs where the bed was located) and it was a bit more quiet, though sometimes you could heard the door buzz of people waiting to be let into the complex.

During our trek, we were able to store our luggage, which was waiting for us in our new room upon arrival. The included breakfast was great and they even sent breakfast to us on the morning of our 5am hike departure. Typically breakfast wasn't served until about 630, I believe.

Our only issue occurred with booking our trek through Quinua. We didn't realize we'd be booking with a travel agency and thus our cost was much more than the other hikers on our trip. Additionally the trip didn't follow the itinerary we were originally told. If booking a tour or trek through Quinua, make sure you compare with other options. We brought this to their attention, and we were met with a formal meeting to go over our concerns. I truly appreciate their care and understanding in handling the matter. They addressed all of our concerns and we left very satisfied in the end with our overall costs. We were able to relax by a fire that night, a nice treat after the hard trekking from days before.

Overall, we were very pleased and will highly recommend to family and friends.
