Quinua Villa Boutique was my home away from home in Cusco. I lived there for several months while I was studying Spanish and exploring the Sacred Valley. It epitomizes what it means to be a luxury boutique hotel – beautifully designed with attention to detail, personalized service, and a stunning, off-the-beaten-path location.
Apartments: Each apartment is thoughtfully designed in the style of a different period in Peruvian history. Each one has a different feel, but they are equally luxurious. They have all the usual amenities of a luxury hotel and then some. They have excellent gas heat and hot water (unusual, even in Cusco), high-speed internet/cable, beautiful bathrooms and kitchens with everything you could possibly need during your stay, and views. I felt like I was living in a functional/comfortable work of art. It is better than staying in even the most luxurious hotel because it really feels like a home – where you can cook, host parties, etc. I loved it as a solo traveler because it really felt like I had my own apartment in Cusco (except better because I didn’t have to do the cleaning!). It is particularly well suited for couples, families, or groups. Cristiano will help you determine which apartment or combination of apartments will be suit your needs.
Quinua is located just blocks from the heart of San Blas, my favorite neighborhood in all of Cusco. It is a short walk or taxi ride to the Plaza de Armas yet just enough off-the-beaten-path that it feels like a quiet sanctuary from the tourism hustle and bustle. There are also two little general stores/tiendas and laundry services/lavanderias at the bottom the stairs that lead up to the street where the building is located. NOTE: If you are physical handicapped or have difficulty with stairs (at high altitude), this is not the place for you. Quinua is only accessible by foot and, though you can take a taxi to a spot nearby, you cannot avoid climbing at least one big flight of stairs. The Quinua staff will carry your luggage for you, but you must feel comfortable with stairs. If you can manage that, your efforts will certainly be rewarded.
Because it is such a small hotel, they are really able to individualize service and be responsive to your personal needs and wants. All feedback is taken to heart and acted upon immediately. (One day, for example, I casually mentioned that it was a little bit dark in the sitting area of my apartment. While I was out the next morning, they replaced all of the lightbulbs and brought in a lamp.) There is always someone available to assist you and they are all such lovely people. They became my friends during my stay – though they always respected my privacy. Cristiano is actually an archeologist and created Quinua because of his love for the area. He is a wealth of knowledge and an incredible resource for travelers.
Overall, I have to say that staying at Quinua was one of the best decisions I made during my trip. Whether you are there for a few days or weeks or months, I’m sure you will have a wonderful experience.
