“Deluxe Hotel, Great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

The Andean Wings is 100% a boutique style hotel. The hotel has a restaurant/bar lounge area with fireplace and a spa, with a wonderful masseuse Elizabeth. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located very close to the plaza and many restaurants. I never thought I would go to Peru but their guest relations manager, Lisa Simms had arranged a trip to include all of our accomadations, local guides for our sightseeing and many of our meals were included. She plans several of these trips a year for all budgets. Contact the hotel for further info if you want to join a group or have their guest relations dept help plan your individual itinerary during your stay. Its the best way to see the local ruins and Machu Picchu. After spending 10 days in Cusco and the area, this hotel was a wonderful place to come back to each day. Rooms were modern, clean and had all the amenities you expect in a deluxe hotel. Breakfast each morning was included in an appealing buffet style. Other meals and room service are also available along with free WiFi. The Andean Wings and their staff provided a trip experience I will never forget.

I agree agree 100% with stuayoung's review below. Here are points from our experience.

1. Overpriced
2. Hot water takes 5-10 minutes to heat up
3. Breakfast service is slow and not set up at 6:00 a.m. Buffets is very mediocre.
4. Regular rooms small. Suites better.
5. Church bells start ringing early
6. Massage therapist, Elizabeth is very nice!
7. Staff tries hard but just can not deliver
8. Eerie ambiance.
9. Court yard is oddly decorated and cold
10. Bathroom towels are gray and rough
11. Pillows are flat.
12. Location is good.

We would like to thank you for your above critique. We are always striving to provide the best possible service to our clients, and we take seriously the concerns mentioned.

We would like to address a few of your concerns here. We are a small boutique hotel located in a historic monument, and each of our rooms are distinct and different, and being a historic building we are not allowed to make structural alterations to the rooms. Regarding your point #4, some rooms are larger than others and we do our best to represent the rooms realistically on our website with accurate photo representations. Our Matrimonial Superior rooms and Suites are all a good size, and we have a few smaller rooms with one double or two twin beds. Obviously, these are priced accordingly.

Point # 5 - We are located near Santa Teresa Convent and they do indeed ring their bells. Cusco can be a noisy city, with fireworks, parades, etc.- it is part of the Cusqueñean culture! Anyone who comes to Cusco should know this – it is not a quiet town! We are now offering earplugs for people who are sensitive to the sound of the city.

In regards to Points 8 & 9, our hotel is decorated with original works of art by David “Slocum” Hewson with a theme of “Ayahuasca” art. Admittedly, it is unusual and is a representation of some of the Esoteric Tourism which is offered in Peru. We do offer ceremonies though the hotel connected with the Plant Spirit Medicines and one of our owners is a San Pedro shaman/Wachumera. If one did not understand this, the art may appear to be ”odd”.

Some of the other points are a matter of opinion, some of them nice – and thanks! Peru is a developing country and the standard of service is different and does not realistically compare with American or European standards. Things just move more slowly here in general. Thanks again for your input!

We stayed at Andean Wings for 4 nights, originally checked into a standard room but upgraded to larger studio. We stayed in Purple Haze room and found it to be very comfortable although we had some street noise in that room. Staff were very caring and very helpful. Hotel restaurant is ok but we preferred food at other resturants in the area. Customer service manager Lisa was very helpful on the cultural aspects of Peru and gave some good background that we found most useful during our tour of Cusco & macchu pichu etc. The bar with it's open fire is a great place to chill out and enjoy some great red wines and share in a coversation with other guests. Breakfast was buffet style and food was generally of a good standard. Would recommend this hotel and would consider staying there again for any future trips to Cusco. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and a big thanks to the team at Andean Wings for giving it that personal touch.

Amazing . Outstanding service. Our hotel room was incredible. All the coca tea to drink + oxygen if you need it. The staff and Hotel Manager Lisa Sims were very helpful and attentive. The hotel is just one block away from the main city square. The hotel has a incredible courtyard with a restaurant. Food is excellent. We stay 11 days with no interruption of service. I have stayed at high end hotels in New York and the Andean is the place to be in Cusco for it cost and extraordinary service.

Room Tip: Acclimate your body to the high altitude . Rest one full day before you experience the wonderful cit...

I've stayed at Andean Wings 3 times now and I'm always so impressed by the atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door. The staff is filled with smiles and helpful information. The location is in the heart of Cusco, just blocks from Plaza de Armas.. yet far enough away that you don't hear any of the late night crowd. Once inside this ancient building, you are met with a wide open enclosed courtyard which is the center of happenings. It is also the restaurant, so you can dine under natural light!! The head chef, Valeria, is most impressive and great at making additions or substitutions for my somewhat restrictive diet. I WILL be back, in less than a month!!

Thanks so much for your review, Kirsten! It is always lovely to see you here at Andean Wings! Yes, Valeria is such a wonderful chef and thank you for calling her out – for all their creativity and hard work, individual chefs rarely get mentioned on Trip Advisor. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

This property is extremely beautiful! It has all the charm and beauty in the world! Anyone would absolutely love it! There is no way not to. The decor is delightful. The rooms are really comfortable. Bring a sleep mask if light bothers you and ear plugs for noise are advisable too as there is a convent nearby with tons of bell sound in the extremely early morning.
Location is great.
2 problems I encountered. 1. I lost a bag I left in the dinning area with couple of inexpensive things (luckily) that I bought in the local market, so be aware of your belongings inside the property. 2. Laundry was WAY ridiculously expensive!!!! Be aware, the prices are in USD. It would have been cheaper to buy new clothes, plus they shrunk and damaged one of my t-shirts. So laundry is BAD and TOO expensive. For the rest, the property is a bliss.

Thanks for your review of Andean Wings! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We would like to respond to a couple of the items you mentioned in your review. Ear plugs are always a good idea in Cusco. They do celebrate a lot here, so fireworks, music, etc. is frequent. And being so near the Equator it does get light quite early. We have installed blackout blinds in our rooms with skylights to address this, but a sleep mask is a great idea too!

Regarding your lost shopping bag, we apologize for the loss and we would like to say that it is quite possible that another guest erroneously picked up your bag. The hotel was at 100% capacity at the time with a specialty group and a couple of people accidently left items behind (which we have since sent to them) and it is just as likely that others picked up belongings that weren’t theirs. As I recall, there was nothing of major value in the bag. Our security is very high here at Andean Wings, there is only one way in and out of the hotel and being such a small hotel we would be completely aware of anyone in the hotel at any given time that should not be here, even if they could get past our doorman/security. Of course, it always is a good idea to keep an eye on your belongings.

We apologize sincerely that one of your laundry items was damaged. We use 3 different laundry services, and we have gone through our records to see if there was a complaint regarding damaged laundry and we could not find one. Did you tell us at the time there was an issue? We would have happily compensated you for your loss. And it would really help us to know about it so that we could hold our laundry service accountable. Unfortunately, laundry services in Peru are fairly high-risk, which is why we itemize every single article, and why prices are high. As a result of your incident, we have added several measures for quality control, to insure that our guests are all happy with the service they received.

Once again, thank you for your review and we are so glad that you found bliss during your stay with us!
