I have just came back from Peru and the last thing I did in this amazing trip was the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu.
My boyfriend and I were crazy about going to Peru but I am not the kind of person that go to camping, walking for miiiles, but well, my boyfriend told me that would be the best and the most beautiful way to go to Machu Picchu and then I got really excited about it!
Bio Andean is the name of the agency and they are EXCELENT! Everything very organized and the entire team were just amazing.
They do a briefing with your guide a day before starting the trip and in that moment we just realized: My God, this is going to be AWSOME. And it really was. Who is the guide? It's Jimmy Jhon, THE LEGEND!!!
The trail is not easy at all, but each step you take there is an AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL and BREATHTAKING view. All very well explained and contextualized by our tour guide, Jimmy Jhon. The guy is simply amazing. He is definitely THE LEGEND! Very good and high energy, really smart, funny, worried about everybody all the time and really kind and nice to entire group. One of the first things he said to us was: "I wanna you to be a family for the next 5 days and I don't wanna be just your guide, but one of the members of this family too. And this was what happened. We were in 7 people, we all get along very well, and have so much fun. Everybody helping one another and JJ always around helping everybody.
For me was like an huuuuge victory! I have never did something like that and sometimes I really thought I could not do it, I could not finished, but Jimmy was always there, helping me out and telling me: "come on, you can do it"! Always very kindly and very patient. And I can tell you, it is totally worth it!!!!
Together with JJ team, there was the great horse Man, Cidro, and the Chef and assistant chef Amancio o "Amazing" y Amancito. With those guys we had the best meals in Peru. That wasn't what I was expecting, definitely. Those guys do magic for us and were always one step ahead of us, serving us tea, purify water, hot water and letting all of our tends ready for us to sleep.
First and Second day are more difficult, the others get easier! Be prepared to walk a lot, to climb up and climb down, to see the sun, the most beautiful views, walk in the rain, to see the snow, and have a lot of fun! Take your camera, your walking shoes, walking sticks (helps a lot), repelent, sunscream and go for it!!!
This was definitely one of THE BEST trips of my life and I'm sure it wouldn't be the same without the biggest LEGEND, Jimmy Jhon. If you one go, ask to go with him, you will not be disappointed! It was unforgettable!
