“Nice hostel, helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

We stayed at Samay Wasi for a few days. The rooms were nice and the staff were always happy to help with cabs, early breakfasts and other info. The hostel has a great view over Cusco and a nice deck.
It is quite a steep uphill walk to get there from the Plaza but still felt close to most things.

Samay Wasi was such a pleasant experience. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, going out of their way to attend to our and other guests' requests. The rooms are small but clean and cozy. The hot water was fully functional and such a treat after 4 days on the Inca trail. Another few bonuses were the free airport pick up and the internet on-site. I didn't use the Wi-Fi, but the computer on site was convenient and fast. Breakfast was simple coffee/tea options, but there were tasty add-ons that were reasonably priced (and could be prepared no matter what hour of the morning!). The only slight downside is the location - it is hike up a large hill at the end of the evening but the views during the day and the overall experience make it so worth it.

For our 3 nights stay in October we could not have found a better and spectacularly situated place.
The staff were absolutely fabulous - cheerful, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was good and for a few Soles extra there was a choice of various warm dishes - well worth it.
The view from the terrace (with tables and seats) over Cusco and the surrounding countryside is stunning.
The accommodation (room with adjacent shower/toilet) was somewhat small and basic but clean and sufficient for our purpose. We had to ask for a heater though as the nights became very chilly and the windows were drafty.
Also the breakfast room was chilly, so had to wear our pullovers.
If you develop breathing problems due to high altitude sickness, there is an oxygen tank at the reception you can use for free! Just need to ask. Very efficient.
Overall Samay Wasi can be highly recommended. Very good value for your money!

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper floor for the better view.

My friend and I stayed here for four nights back in August and absolutely loved it! The staff was very helpful at giving us directions and recommendations on what to eat and what to see. The terrace upstairs has an excellent view, just breathtaking. Breakfast is delicious and can be served early at your request. The rooms can get a bit chilly deepening what time of the year you visit, but they offer warm blankets. Other than that, they are very comfortabe Honestly, I am glad we made the right choice, I usually don't write reviews, but this place deserved it. Enjoy!

I feel we are well placed to review Samay Wasi having stayed in 4 different rooms (twin, double and 2 of their deluxe doubles), due to our unorganisation and their popularity. One thing worth mentioning is that the deluxe rooms are the only ones to come with a heater, cable tv and a more substantial breakfast, so are worth the increased price in our view. All rooms were clean and the staff were friendly and spoke good English. They were also very accommodating when we arrived early off a night bus. The view from the top floor (deluxe rooms and common room) is spectacular. Overall a great hostel, although it has more of a hotel feel if honest because it kind of lacks a used social space (we only discovered the common room on our 4th day). It is up a few steps but in a cool arty neighbourhood and the view is worth the effort.
Tip - the breakfast area is a little chilly so remember to wear your coat!

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are worth the extra - great views, larger rooms, heater, cable TV and more substantial...

we stayed here before and after our 2 day-1night Machu Picchu tour.

the staff were so helpful, booking bus tickets for us onto arequipa, answering all our questions and staying up until 1am on our return from the macchu picchu treks.

2 issues - there is a tour agency attached to this hostel who charge 300 USD plus for a 2d-1n tour. given the price of the rooms was around 30 soles per night, it didn´t seem fitting for the tour agency to be charging such steep prices to those staying in budget accommodation.

also be prepared for the cold- don´t know if this is typical of all hostels in cusco but the rooms and communal eating areas were very fresh and we ate in our jackets.

also as a warning, it´s situated up a few steps so dont be alarmed if you huff and puff your way up on the first day1

Room Tip: hot showers in the private twin room and 4 bed dorm, not so hot in the 6 bed dorm downstairs as the...

We appreciate your comments, we are working on a project to solve the problem of cold in the hostel. for now the guests may request extra blankets or heater (low cost) if you wish..
We are so sorry for your inconvenience by the prices of the tours offered. The tour prices include transportation services (trains, buses) and entrance tickets, which are priced established, in Cusco there are many options with different services and prices that guests can choose, we only guarantee the quality of tours and services offered in Samay Wasi.

Stayed with Samay Wasi for 4 nights before our excursion. We had another hostel booked for our return days but we cancelled and arranged for us to stay with Samay Wasi upon return. They were so helpful and welcoming, I couldn't imagine staying elsewhere! They fed us, laundered our clothes at all hours, and made sure our room was immaculate! Plus the view on their patio was beyond amazing. It was the perfect picture of Cusco. Highly recommend, and as soon as I have the chance to return, I wont stay anywhere but with Samay Wasi. Thank you all so much for an amazing experience! We miss you and we'll be back soon.

Room Tip: All rooms were fantastic.
