“Lovely historic building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

Overall we had a great stay here in May 2014. Our spacious room was on the ground floor off an inner courtyard and had an amazing vaulted ceiling and exposed original stonework. The whole building was so interesting and felt like going back to the age of the Spanish! However the room was quite noisy, and dinner/breakfast was served in the restaurant right across the courtyard, including outside, where a harpist struck up at 6.30 am. Felt like he was in the room with us as the old original doors are obviously not sound-proof! Staff were very pleasant and things generally were very good. The breakfast selections were very good and service prompt.

Just an irritant - in a place where tap water was not drinkable, we would have expected complementary water in our room, but the hotel imposed a very high charge for this, which seems excessive for a hotel chain trying to appeal to the luxury market. Much larger bottles are available just a few yards away down the street for a tenth of the cost!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, away from public areas (maybe towards the rear of the hotel

Nice hotel, centrally located close to Santa Catalina and the Plaza de Armas. Beautiful colonial house, where Simon Bolivar spent some time. Nice restoration, very attentive service. Buffet breakfast in the lovely patio, with outdoor heaters if needed. Perfectly quiet and comfortable.

Stayed a week or so with wife in a suite here in late June/early July.

The room was just excellent. Absolutely loved it. Stayed in 102, which is in the old part of the hotel. I think the arched stone ceiling in the bedroom must have been over four metres high, and the living room, bedroom and bathroom were all in typical Arequipa Sillar stone. For an enourmous room in a historical building like this, the price they charge in my opinion is very reasonable. Other rooms are located in the modern part of the hotel, and I can't comment on them.

The location is also excellent, in the charming old town of Arequipa, just a couple of blocks away from the main square and the tourist bars on San Fransisco.

The common areas of the hotel are also beautiful. The reception, restaurant, bar, and the two historical courtyards are very well presented (although the ugly roof over the lounge courtyard doesn't really help). The modern part of the hotel is fairly well done, so it doesn't clash too horribly with the original Sillar part.

Have no complaints about the service either. Everyone was helpful and friendly (Even though sometimes with the annoying habit of replying in English to a question in Spanish...). A small point that may or may not be of interest (that doesn't bother me) is that this hotel has no turn down service.

The major drawback of this hotel is the lack of leisure facilities, due presumably to space limitations in the old town block where it's located.

Breakfast was pretty limited, and hardly worth setting the alarm for. I've had nicer breakfasts with more choices in more basic hotels than this.

All in all this is a very nice, well run and reasonably priced hotel. Would definitely recommend it. A beautiful historical building with huge bedrooms in Sillar stone (only the suites). However, if you like gardens, pool, gym, sauna and steam room, and don't mind less impressive accomodation in a more modern building, then you may be better off booking at the Libertador up in Selva Alegre.

Room Tip: Get a suite in the old part of the hotel. One of the most impressive hotel rooms I've stayed in.

I really can not think of anything bad about the Casa Andina. The people from bellboy (Willy) to cleaners to waiters to lobby checkin service were all top class - way above average. Better than Marriott service - I mean it !! Rooms were nice and clean. Breakfast was awesome. Location is great - not right next to the noisy plaza but still very very close by. Arequipa city was ok but not as great as I thought it would be from all the other reviews and travel books. It can not be compared in my mind to Cuzco which is much nicer. We did have a great time visiting the cathedral, and found a great rooftop restaurant bar right next to the rooftop restaurant from which we had a great view on the cathedral, the plaza and the sunset !!! Great place. There were also a couple expensive top class restaurants in Arequipa which were recommended but which we gave a pass. Who goes to Peru really to eat foie gras ....

After a long plane trip from Europe a couple of days here was just what the doctor ordered. The staff were really fantastic, the rooms just great and the breakfasts could not be faulted. So conveniently located to numerous restaurants and the main square and a really safe environment. Would heartily recommend this hotel to anybody of whatever age or likes or dislikes.

Full marks !!

Room Tip: Would go for the upper floors as ground floor rooms looked a little dark

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We spent three nights at the Casa Andina Private Collection hotel in Arequipa in May 2014 as part of a three week tour of Peru. The hotel is located in a quiet spot within a few minutes walk of the historic town centre and most of the key sites. Our room was well- equipped and comfortable, albeit rather narrow. The shower flow, though, was poor. Disappointingly, the breakfast room was so cold that staff and most guests needed to wear outdoor jackets. As a result, we did not eat dinner at the hotel and, instead used local restaurants. Our favourite was Zig Zag on Zela. The hotel staff, though, were very helpful, efficient and friendly. Would recommend for location but management need to improve the breakfast experience.

We appreciate your candid comments regarding our staff members; it is part of our standards to attend and assist our guests´ requests in order to create excellent experiences. Also, we are glad that our location was convenient for you.

On the other hand, we regret to know that we did not meet your expectations concerning the breakfast buffet, which consist in a varied, of: fruits, jams, cheeses, waffles, breads, yogurt, juices, eggs, meats and others.

We certainly hope you can give us another opportunity to welcome you any of our hotels.

We spent 3 nights at this beautiful place, a former residence and mint. The location is perfect to see the main sites of the city. The lobby and public areas are sunlit and really nice. Check-in was very quick. In fact, each member of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful--I do not know how they remember each guest's name, but they do! A special thank-you to Willy and Michelle, who are wonderful ambassadors to Arequipa! Our room was in the newer section. It was very pretty, as well as spacious and quiet; the mattress was not too firm. There is a safety-box. Wi-fi worked very well. We did not change the A/C, so do not know how responsive it is. The bathroom was spotless, with a nice shower, and had all of the amenities: Wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, robes and slippers. Bottles of water were replaced each day. Breakfast is a nice spread: typical assortment, with an egg station and a harpist. We ate our first meal in Arequipa at Alma, the on-site restaurant; it was one of the better meals we had in Arequipa! Martin, in the bar, gave my husband his first well-made extra dry martini he has had outside of the US. While there, we ate at Zig-Zag and Chi Cha; Zig-Zag slightly better than Chi Cha, however I do not highly recommend either one. Don't miss the Monasterio D Santa Catalina and the main square, which has great people-watching and a grocery store nearby. And, if you have time, go see the mummy of the Ice Maiden, Juanita, at Museo Santuarios Andinos. Really wonderful!
