“An oasis in a mad city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Set in beautiful gardens with resident grazing Alpaca, kept I suspect to keep the grass short but in no way intrusive, resident Peacocks and Peahens and caged canaries amongst the tree this is a real haven from the constant manic rush of the traffic in every street of this city. It's location is just across the river from the downtown area but less than a ten minute walk - depending how long it takes to cross the main road on the way in. The gardens are a perfect place to relax in the sun.
The rooms are set in a number of annexes and are clean and very comfortable. Bathroom towels were soft and luxurious. Complimentary bottles of water and hot tea and coffee are constantly available at reception. All the staff are friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is excellent with eggs cooked to order and hot.
Despite the proximity of the city and the busy trunk roads this is not a noisy hotel. A perfect place to stay.

Room Tip: Some suites appeared to be available but I didn't see inside one.

The hotel is walking distance to a market and restaurant area, which is a huge plus to stay out of a taxi. The grounds are extremely nice and manicured. As the last reviewer described, the views of the river and volcano are beautiful. Having the birds and alpacas roaming the garden is gives you a comforting feeling. The restaurant has outdoor seating, and you can enjoy the serenity while eating and having a signature pisco sour. The actual rooms (and beds) are a little small for the business traveler. There was no air conditioning and it was a little too warm for me. The walls are very thin as well. You will know your neighbors habits. The water pressure and temperature were great – which is important for my hotel choices. The rooms are maybe 3 stars; the grounds pull the rating up. I would probably choose another hotel on a business trip, but would definitely stay here again while travelling with family.

What a great hotel, don't be put off as surrounded by traffic, the gardens with views of the volcano, and the river, with hummingbirds, peacocks and llamas are fabulous! Customer service over and beyond including handing out sachets of sun cream at reception. Restaurant beautiful, indoors and out and good well priced food. Pisco sours to die for! Short walk across the bridge to town.

Room Tip: Junior suites - room 801 fantastic, huge room, private terrace overlooking garden and river, jacuzzi...

My husband and I were there in our twenties in 1988.
We still think it is one of the most romantic hotels we stayed in. The Misti mountain was breathtaking and the beautiful gardens too.
The room had bay windows that added to the charm of the place.

Room Tip: Please ask for the bay windows room.

Rooms are small but adequate; bedding is super; bathrooms tiny. The staff is very helpful and the ground are totally charming...peacocks, alpacas and beautiful flowers. Also the setting on the Rio Chili makes for a "getaway" feel from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is an easy walk (except for crossing the bridge) to the central plaza and also, in the opposite direction, to the modern mall. I recommend this hotel for couples vacationing and for business travelers.

Room Tip: Ask for a matrimonial room; it's a bit bigger.

A fantastic hotel overlooking the Rio Chili. Very quiet and peaceful. great view of Misti. excellent customer service beautiful rooms. Porter met us at sidewalk to asssist with bags. good breakfast using fresh local products. Arequipa can be very loud with all the traffic, the location of this hotel blocks the noise and the sound of the river is very comforting.

Great complimentary pisco sours upon arrival. Breakfast was nice in that you order off the menu rather than buffet, quality so/so, but beautiful setting outdoors view of the river and Misti volcano behind. Llamas and peacocks roaming the grounds, unusual setting. Room was perfectly adequate, nice private entrance out to the grounds, but decor was decidedly dated.
