I stayed here a total of 9 nights on a recent trip to Peru. Due to circumstances with my group tour, not the hotel's fault, I wound up in 4 different rooms over the time period. The good thing is that I can report that all rooms were charming, each had it's own personality, with interesting furniture and textiles. The layout of the hotel is hard to describe, it is quite sprawling, over a large area with outdoor pathways and gardens interspersed. The gardens and courtyards are absolutely beautiful. The bathroom facilities varied over the rooms, with the nicest being in the double, room #22. This was one of the nicest rooms overall, but a long walk from the front door. The noisier rooms: have a window to the street, on the first floor, or are near the breakfast patio. The breakfast was the usual buffet with granola/fruit/yogurt, coffee/tea, rolls and jam, scrambled eggs, sometimes some cold cuts. It was fresh and good quality. The service was very very good. The front desk staff, the ladies in the breakfast area, the guys who help with baggage and do the cleaning, and the young guy in the evening tea/cocktail area were all super friendly and helpful. Casa de Melgar is in a charming area of Arequipa, easy to walk to the plaza and many area restaurants. I recommend ZigZag which is just a 3-5 minute walk down Melgar. I would definitely stay at this property again!
