“Absolutely stunning place! Great value for money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2011

I stayed at Casa de Melgar with my girlfriend and a group of friends on a backpacking trip to the south of Peru. We were all stunned by the magic of this place, with its lovely colonial style architecture, full of style and color. The place has a beautiful garden full of flowers, next to which there is a terrace where breakfast is served every morning. The rooms have different sizes, some quite small, some extremely large, all for the same price. We recommend taking a room in the back part of the hotel (behind the garden), which are larger and located in a more quiet area. Just one small negative detail: Occasionally, in some rooms there was only luke warm water in the showers, but this was not a continuous problem (probably the storage tanks for hot water emptied fast at peak shower times (in the early mornings and evenings). The hotel location is very convenient, only a couple of blocks from the main attractions in the city centre. The service staff was kind, diligent and always ready to help. All in all, very recommended!

Our room was absolutely charming - thick stone walls, high ceiling - even the tall wooden door had style. The gardens are charming and it's so quiet here you could almost forget that you're in a city. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved our time at this hotel. We enjoyed the breakfasts every morning - and the friendly women who looked after their little cafe area.

The pictures do not even begin to do this place justice! This was such a lovely and unique place to stay for an evening in Arequipa before heading out to Colca Canyon. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and the service was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

I am glad we stayed long enough in Arequipa to be able to sit and relax in the beautiful garden of the casa. The breakfast was fantastic and we genuinely looked forward to eating and dring all the fresh stuff. The place is huge; but done up so well that you enjoy spaces and experience the wonderful courtyards and terraces. It definitely is more expensive than the others we stayed in; but absolutely worth it.

We stayed in La Casa de Melgar and were more than satisfied. The hotel is a labyrinthine of corridors, rooms, and courtyards which give the place a wonderful and intriguing character. The staff were great and the location was ideal - minutes from the center and attractions. We recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Choosing this hotel we haven’t been mistaken.
First, the hotel has good location, close to the main Arequipa sights – about 10-15 minutes by walk to Plaza de Armas and 5-10 minutes to the Monastery of St. Catalina.
Secondly, rooms are rather comfortable and the internal court yard is a real oasis in city.
And the most remarkable is a building.
Sensation - as though you are traveling to time! Fantastic!

I was disappointed with this place. On the plus side the airport pickup was on time. But as soon as we checked in and saw the room, we went out walking to find a better place to stay. We were out of here within the hour. The sheets and mattress were stained. The pillows were very flat. The water barely flowed out of the faucet. There were bars on the windows. No curtains - the only privacy was to close the wooden shutters, and after that the single light bulb in the ceiling was barely enough light to read by. The door had a skeleton key you had to lock from the inside and it took us 5 minutes to get it to lock. This place didn't even have a luggage stand in the room. The wifi signal seemed good but we had a lot of trouble connecting. Guys, don't let your wife be fooled by the "charming" pictures. It honestly felt like we were crashing in grandma's attic.
