"Ollas de Barro" are the pottery that give their food a traditional touch, and it is simply beautiful.
Worth the journey to Arequipa and another 6 hour bus ride over the high passes, where there is a stop for altitude tea and shopping, to the beautiful Colca Canyon where after a short hike one has the opportunity to see the Condors fly around midday every day. They did not disappoint! They were grand, majestic and beautiful! Worth the journey!
The Colca Canyon visit was part of a three week vacation in Peru. Looking back there were many highlights in our trip but for me the morning spent enjoying the wonderful spectacle of these huge birds drifting on the thermals coming up from the deep canyon below was the highlight. We were fortunate to have a beautiful morning to enjoy the canyon itself plus circa 15 to 20 birds in attendance giving a fantastic flying display, often passing close to us, often right over our heads. A truely unforgettable experiance.
we went on a trip with a company from arequipa. being independent travellers, it was hard being herded in from one place to hte next. but it was great fun and it is truly spectacular.
