My wife and I just completed a two night stay at this property. The room, a suite, was beautiful and spacious. It was clean and quiet. The overall hotel property is set on spacious grounds away from the noise and hustle of the center of the city. Although some may prefer to be in the city center, they should think this through carefully due to the street noise that can be experienced in those properties. La Libertador is a quiet oasis but a mere S/6 ($2 USD) taxi ride into the town center, an extra 30 cents at night.
The pool deck is spacious and comfortable with ample shade. There is al fresco dining on the pool deck, and we had lunch at the hotel several times, twice on the pool deck and one in the cocktail lounge. Service was excellent in both locales... waitress Jennifer and the waiter in the bar whose name I don't recall.
Breakfast buffet was included in our rate, and there is a selection of fruit, cereals, juices, pastries and breads, eggs any way you want them, bacon and sausage as well as pancakes with maple syrup. There are also various hams, cheeses and smoked fish. It was more than adequate, and it was a pleasure to watch the attentiveness of the staff in keeping the buffet table well stocked, clean and orderly.
Front counter staff were pleasant, informative and helpful, and spoke English without issues. They also acted as our concierge, confirming previously made dinner reservations and arranging a private guided tour and car up to the Colca Valley. Leandrea is one of the front desk staff who stands out, but her colleagues that we also dealt with were equally excellent. Not to forget to mention the very helpful Tomas at the front door.
The hotel has its own shuttle van to/from the AQP airport for a nominal $15 US each way for the entire party, not per person. The driver spoke English as well as we did, and was quick to point out the sights along the way. Taxis might be a few dollars cheaper, but could be more uncomfortable and even more dangerous with many local cabs having broken seat belts.
OK, with so many great things to say about this property and its staff, I do have a couple of minor items that I hope will be taken as constructive criticism by the management. First, there is no box of Kleenex tissues as one would usually see at a highly rated hotel, just a small pocket packet of tissues. Second, only one bar of soap... there should be one for the sink AND one for the shower/tub. Third, although I was told that we were entitled to two bottles of complementary water daily, only one was provided in the room. The other had to be requested each day.
The only other issue that I would like to point out is that I ended up making our booking with an online travel site as the English version of the Libertador chain's website did not seem to work very well.
All in all, a beautiful property, nicely landscaped grounds, an attractive pool area with both inside and outside lounge facilities, excellent wifi as well as house computers off the lobby (not used as the wifi gave us no issues)... a helpful, friendly and informed staff throughout the complex... and even its own family of alpacas on the grounds, not to mention Juanita, a giant tortoise. As we were departing on April 21, they were celebrating the hotel's anniversary with an elaborate self-catered function in a tent erected over the previous several days... looked like we missed a fun party! Feliz navidad!
