“great party hostel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

“Amazing hostel! The vibe is great and the pub downstairs is an amazing place to meet new people, especially if you're travelling alone. The only thing is the water in the shower, that that takes a while to heat up, and when it does, lasts for about 3 minutes...

This was a fantastic hostel to stay at. My friends and I were previously staying at a different hostel and switched to Wild Rover. We were so thankful we did! The staff got us situated into our rooms and were very helpful with any problems that arose. The rooms are really big, the beds and so comfortable, and the lockers are big enough to keep your backpack in. The bathrooms were always kept clean and we had good hot water during our stay. The location is amazing, just a short walk to the main square with a lot to do. The bar is amazing, we had a lot of good times in there! The drinks are cheap and the bar staff was really fun. Made for some of crazy nights! There's also a pool table, table football, swimming pool, and table tennis to entertain you. We made lots of good friends in this hostel and would 100% recommend it to fellow travelers who are looking for a good quality hostel with a great atmosphere.

I stayed in a private room for one night. It smelled moldy and had no private bathroom (you can get a private with bathroom for around the same price at loki around the corner)

The worst part was when we decided to book a salt flat tour in the agency located in the wild rover building because we thought it would be reputable and didn't mind paying a bit extra for the security. It turned out to be completely TERRIFYING to make a long story short, our whole group including the driver had food poising, the driver was no where to
Be found on day 3 when asked the people just shrugged their shoulders. He got dropped off 3 hours later when he was found with a bloody head, missing shoe and completely wasted. A guy from our group had to drive the 4x4 and we saw nothing because we were running late to the border. They insisted on trying to make us drive with the wasted guy because they didn't want to get in trouble with the cops. We refused and it almost ended in a fist fight, I won't continue with the life treating journey but I will include that when we got back to try and get our money back it was a 2.5 hour argument with the tour company and ended in 350bs refund . We had no choice but to try and sort the rest out back at the wild rover. Conveniently a paper appeared saying wild rover had nothing to do with the tour company even though they are located in the same building with the same paint job, they did nothing to compensate for the hell we went through. I would highly recommend staying away from this place.

This hostel has the most amazing beds and I also like the fact that they also have an all female room. The showers are shared but they had hot water. The pool was the biggest of all three Wild Rovers but it was too cold to get in. Plus the bar is close to the entrance so the rooms are quiet if you've had a tough and long day.

Wild rover Arequipa:

Stayed for 1 night as a stopove between Ica and Cusco. We were a group of 3 in a 4 bed room with no bathroom. There were lockers in the rooms that were big enough to hold our bags but no outlets. Charging lockers were available at reception.

Washrooms were so-so in terms of cleanliness. We tried on several different occasions using 3 different shower locations to try and get hot water and all we had was freezing cold. We told reception and they were thinking they may have shut the gas off but to turn the water on for 5 minutes it Gould be fine but after waiting around 10 minutes the 3rd time we gave up.

Breakfast was standard bread and jam and tea. Highly recommend drinking coca leaf tea or eating some coca candies if you are headed to the colca canyon.

Wifi available only in common areas.

Reception were very relaxed and able to help us get a taxi. Also gave us advice as I was suffering from altitude sickness after the colca canyon.

Location is VERY close to the main square. Very easy to find shops, restaurants and tour companies.

Also in case you are coming here during the hotter months and imagine the pool as big from the pictures it's about the size of a jacuzzi. Pictures are deceiving. It was too cold for us to use but figured I should mention that.

Stayed there for one night and it was looking like it was going to be a really great place to stay until I woke up in the morning with bed bug bites. The staff convinced us we had them beforehand even though I know for a fact we didn't because the other four friends we were travelling with who did not stay at WR did not get bed bugs... They took out the mattresses and gave us another room even though we decided not to stay there another night obviously. Really disappointed in the end. It cost us a lot of money to get EVERYTHING washed and we still had to pay for the night we didn't stay there.

The hostel in Arequipa is really big, the swimming pool is a great place to have breakfast after a great night with the awsome weather in Arequipa during the warm day. Reception guys are good english spoken, useful, even when guests could be tedious.
All the staff working there is nice, friendly and funny.
Good security and everything is close from the hostel, Main square 2 blocks.
Pool table, foosball, table tennis, TV room with many movies in, hammocks, swimming pool, 2 bars, travel agency in, so you don't even need to put your shoes on to book any tour or bus.
The bar staff is always ready to make a great party. We made some good friends there, looks like you can not check out once you are into. Even when the hostel is massive and there's more people than in other hostels, it's always clean, maybe the cleanest I've seen in South America. Wi-fi is not awsome, it never is in Peru. Maybe they could improve this with so many people staying in.
We planned to be just 2 nights in Arequipa, but we spent like 10 in total after going back to this place. Good experience.

Room Tip: Rooms by the swimming pool are far from the night bar, upstairs are better than ever, huge lockers t...
