“Charming...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Very affordable accomodation in great location in Arequipa. The staff sent useful emails prior to arrival with directions & cost of taxis etc. They speak very little english which was a bit of a challenge but with our small amount of spanish we got by & they were very friendly. There was a small communal kitchen which was great, although our coffee was stolen so beware! The room was quite small but was really beautiful as the interior walls were sillar & there was a beautiful archway over the bed. Hot water was extremely unreliable though, this was the main downside.

This hotel is in a very good location, centrally located. The owner is a very friendly man who gave us tons of information about the town and the surrounding area. The room was rather basic and there isn't plenty of hot water, so hurry up as soon as you get back! Unfortunately the room didn't face the street but the inner not-so-nice court. Indeed the price was very cheap, so it was ok for sleeping there a few hours.

Dear guest:

In our email conversation you telling me that your comment was made on the basis of your stay in September 2012, so, almost a year ago.

I just wonder if Tripadvisor should authorized comments as long-standing because in one year, many things may have changed.

Best regards.

Best to get a room at the back of the hostel at the weekend as the street is pretty noisy. Front rooms are ok during the week. It has solar powered showers which are best about 5pm. The rooms are nice and have real duvets and great pillows, so a comfy sleep. There is a nice terrace and the shared kitchen's ok too. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were cleaned regularly. It felt secure and they look after bags if you go to Colca Canyon. Wifi was great.

Room Tip: Take a back room at the top - the most quiet

Liked:
- Really nice staff, very welcoming and accommodation
- Beds. Nice mattresses and loved that there was a duvet instead of sheets and blanket. Proper pillow.
- Great location, half a block from a main pedestrian shopping street and just a few from the square
- We had a colonial style room (arched brick ceiling) with private bath. Charming.
- Price, for what we paid (with Hostelling international discount) it was a good value

Did not like:
- Cold showers, even on the hours it was supposed to be hot it became lukewarm
- Kitchen did not have any pots (plenty pans, cutlery, plates etc)
- Room did not have a large window, just a very small one (which was sufficient for fresh air), but you cannot look outside
- Laundry. Bring it elsewhere. Comes back really crinkled and not really clean

This hostel has a great location in the city. We had a room with private bathroom. Room was clean and beds were comfortable. Unfortunately the shower was cold even during the 'hot wather hours'. Staff isn't easy to review. There was a very friendly elder man who was realy helpful and a lady that seemed to be too busy. They offer tours but don't push you. Wifi connection was fast but didn't work for several hours during our stay.

We paid about 50 soles for a night for a double private room and we would recommand this place, but don't expect too much!

We were happily surprised on arrival to this hostel given the low price for a double - private, ensuite room. We personally found the staff to be extremely helpful and polite at all times and really enjoyed our stay. The room was large with cable tv and a comfortable bed. The terrace gives wonderful views of the surrounding landscape and the hostel is situated perfectly - just 10 metres from the pedestrianised road (with great places to eat) and a further 5 minutes from the beautiful main plaza. The only slight downside to out stay was a not a particularly sociable atmosphere, but that isn´t really down to the staff / hostel itself.

Stayed here recently and unfortunately found they accused of lies, overcharged and left with accusations. While I found the room basic and ok, I found the lady at reception nasty. I also found there was no toilet paper for more than a day in any toilet. I had to bring my own. I have read other reports about this hostel and I think you will find they are true. I heard the lady and a man being really abusive to one guest. I also tried to report them to Hosteling International, but I can't seem to do that on-line. Sad, as the location and price is good, but the way they need to take a happy pill, and go and learn how to treat people, or change jobs.

Dear traveler,

Is very suspicious that you have created a new account on this site to keep referring to this hostel as curleystops did and continues talking about the same erroneous references.

I can not understand what is your motivation to continue in this lie but I hope you will stop soon.

Best regards
