The staff was HELPFULL, breakfast more than enough and the location was not bad at all. Rooms were simple, maybe a bit cold but not really something your complain about. Marlon is
such a nice guy!!! For example they helped me and my friends book both the trip to Canyon del colca and the bus to puno from The hostel. Good service indeed

As I was not looking for extreme partying and wanted to enjoy the beautiful city of Arequipa, as well as do some trekking in the Colca Canyon, my eye fell on this hostel.
It was absolutely the best choice!

Tours are easy to book via the hostel, they're extremely helpful. Breakfast is the best I've had in Peru. Beds and rooms are comfy, but especially clean and there's enough privacy.
Toilets are typical Peru style, so not the cleanest. It's not a 3 or 4-star hotel after all.

Location is about a 15 min. walk from the Plaza, however all the main streets are very close to the hostel. Beautiful view from the rooftop to view the mountains and volcanoes.

If you're looking for a good organised hostel with extremely friendly and charming staff, book Marlon's House in Arequipa.
If you're only in Peru for partying, go check in at Loki or Wild Rover.

Hi,

as booked this place I didn't what they try to do with us. As they informed us they move to a new on the day we arrive I was a bit skeptic but I thought okay even expecting a few inconveniences. But at the time we arrived there no sign of the hotel at the place where they told us it would be. Took us over an hour to find them and them to open the door.
Then the hotel interior was not even nearly finished and the room was not ready too.
As they asked for some time to changed it we agreed. They couldn't change it so we decided to move to an other place and they agreed and it was already late.
At they and they told Booking.com we didn't show up so that we should pay the bill without staying in the unfinished hostal. Very bad experience!

Definitely not recommend this place!

Rooms were ok, nothing special. Some of the shared showers are awful, cramped. There aren't any communal areas but it's not so important for everyone. One of the rooms is adjoining and you can hear every noise from the next room. Not great if it's a couple of drunken guys with verbal dihorrea, which us what happened on one night.

Generally pleasant though.

Room Tip: Avoid the 2 first floor rooms at the front without bathroom. These are adjoining and noise from next...

I stayed at Marlons House for six nights with a break in between doing the Colca trek.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place!!!

Spacoius rooms, comfy beds, good breakfast, nice location, hot shower, fast wifi but the most incredible thing is the staff.
They do whatever they can to help you and make your stay more pleasant!!!

I got a little sick on the trek, so they would have called an English speaking doctor if I wanted one.
They booked my bus ticket...
They even wanted to get me a pizza when I was not feeling well to walk into town to get some dinner.
They cleaned up the bathroom for me before I wanted to have a shower (even though I think it wasnt dirty at all)

I would also recommend to book the colca trek (or other tours) with them. It was a fantastic experiance and they only work with local guides, who speaks perfectly english and they are so full of knowledge because they grew up in the area.

I would stay at Marlons house over and over again if I am back in the area!

Thanks to everyone for a perfect stay...you guys are unforgetable!!!

Room Tip: 310- the roof top room (my absolut favourite)

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 9 nights over Easter as we had Spanish lessons in Arequipa. Rosario and all the staff were so welcoming and went out of their way to help us with everything we needed.

The breakfast buffet was fantastic every morning: bread, eggs, butter, cereal, milk, strawberry yoghurt, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juice, coffee, tea and more! When we had an early bus the staff prepared an excellent breakfast spread and brought it to us the night before. Our room was very spacious and the shower was lovely and hot as long as you go in at a sensible time (solar heated). There are lockers in reception which are great but the place is very safe and secure. The location is good, only about 10 minutes from the Plaza de Armas. I can't recommend this place enough!

booked by email with no problems.
room (booked a 'matrimonial but got a triple) had very large private bath, was clean, bed comfortable, shower hot with good water pressure.
breakfast was continental with a good spread, and eggs were available on request.

the breakfast terrace has shade and a wonderful view of the mountains, we often went there in the afternoon to send emails and such. there is a beautiful park about 5 minutes walk away which doesn't feature on most tourist maps, but is nice if you want a bit of green and quiet.

they offer discounts for longer stays, and south america explorer members.

they have a travel office, but we didn't use this as we weren't planning to go anywhere--we mostly wanted to get a feel for the city and acclimatise before going on to cusco.

the only downsides were that:
-there is a fair bit of traffic noise until about 10pm if you have a room on the street (i think only private rooms are here), but after that it's quiet by peruvian standards until about 8am.
-they have the world's most annoying doorbell ever, which plays loudly for about 15 seconds. please, if you come in late at night, knock. hopefully some day they'll get one that sounds only in the work areas.
-we were offered a pick up from the bus station, but not until check out did we learn that actually, we had to pay for this (15 soles). had we known it wasn't free, we'd have arranged our own transport.
-we wanted to stay longer as one of us wasn't feeling well and our bus was later in the evening. we did this in a place in lima, and were charged a half day. here we were offered the option of paying for a full night, or moving to a dorm room (one was empty) for 15 soles each. in the end we agreed a price a little lower than a full night--but as they weren't particularly busy we were surprised by the price.
