“We love you Jose”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 7 nigths and went to the Colca Canyon for 3 days during our stayed. It was no problem for them to store our baggage during the trip.
The place has a lovely owner, Jose, who will do anything to help you and make your stay here great. We really liked him. We asked if we could move room, and he just gave us another room without doubt. The wifi is okay most of the time, but the computer and internet, which is free to use, are good and fast. We always has hot water. The rooms are basic but nice, and most of them are with TVs. On the roof there is a cozy terrace with nice views over the town and to the El Misti volkano.
The kitchen is small and a little dirty, but okay to use for basic cooking.
The location is very near to restaurants, shops and bars and to the Plaza del Armas and cathedral.

We will highly recommend this place for its owner and its cheap price.

I will repeat what everyone says - Jose the owner makes this place special. The hostel itself is basic but rooms come with private bathroom. There is a small but functional kitchen. Everyone who works here is very nice and smiley. Jose can't do enough for you. When I was sick one of the girls made me mate de coca. They do go the extra mile.
The hostel also has a a rooftop terrace which is great for lazy days.
It really has everything you need at a great price, I would definitely stay here again!

As in most of hostels you'd find, the owner here made all the difference. Jose is just a great guy and very interested in displaying all the good things Arequipa has to offer. The hostel itself is in an excellent location, clean, cozy, inexpensive and...quiet!! We were able to store our packs while we went on the Colca Canyon trek. Jose also arranged for laundry services, which were overdue. It has a small kitchen but we ate out everynight, the local cuisine is terrific and inexpensive. If you're looking for an overcrowded, bed bugs infested party hostel..look elsewhere.

For us, this place was perfect- we came back to stay here after our Canyon tour:

1) The owner, Jose, was really helpful and very friendly. He was able to direct us to a great travel agent to book our Colca Canyon trip.
2) Location was near some of the best restaurants of Arequipa (north of the Plaza) and only a short walk to the Plaza de Armas. Safe neighbourhood.
3) Room was basic but clean & spacious with our own bathroom... at a fantastic price (well below what we've paid in every other Peruvian city). Beds were comfortable, a must for us. Hot water worked fine in our room. Internet was best in the reception area, but generally worked in our room on the 3rd floor.
4) Not a party hostel, more of a guesthouse, so we got a great night of sleep.

Would highly recommend this place!

Also to note- we arrived at 8am after a rough overnight bus ride and we were allowed to check into our room immediately, with no extra charge. This was such a nice touch and we really appreciated it!

A nice hostal, has a kitchen and all the rooms have private bathrooms. The owner Jose is really helpfull and friendly. The hostal is in 7 minutes of the plaza del Armas, which is a good location! Private rooms are only 50 sol a night for two, a good price for a nice place.

After reading all the reviews I guess my expectations were pretty high. Average place. Clean though and the host Jose is super nice. It is really cheap to stay there which is why it is worthwhile. The place itself is nothing spectacular as it is not very social but worth it if you just want a cheap clean place to sleep.

La Posada del Kuraka was probably the nicest place we've been in our last weeks in Perù.
What it offers are clean and warm rooms with comfy beds, private bathroom in each of them with hot water 24h; excellent location in a quiet and safe neighborhood, close to laundries, shops, restaurants, and only five minutes walk to plaza de Armas; it also has a nicely furnished kitchenette and a huge fridge where you can store your stuff; the owner, the amazing Jose, will always be there to assist you, and most important for us backpackers, he is extremely kind and honest and will give you good advices about what to see/ where to eat without breaking your wallet..!
Last but not least, la Posada has an excellent terrace overlooking the city on one side and El Misti on the other, making of it a brilliant place to meet other travellers, have a drink or even just relax after a long walking day in the White City.
I would definitely recommend this place for either short or long stays, also considering the very good relation between quality and price.
I'm looking forward to be back there, some day!
