“Good Hostal, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Staff very friendly and helpful... location was a block or two from the main square... the 2 day conventional trip to Colca Canyon they arranged was awesome and well organised... rooms were basic and clean, showers were good and the water hot... there was work going on to improve the hangout areas which will gain them an extra star when complete. Wifi was good and worked from our room... lots of additional facilities available...

Room Tip: We opted for a double with private bathroom... rm 204 I think... only thing lacking was additional s...

Sol de Oro turned out to be such a nice hostel in Arequipa. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Free wifi and good priced laundry service. Great location close to historical centre.
Not all people at the reception speak English very well, although they are very helpful and even called the owner Yuanita to be able to answer my questions.

Arriving to the hostel at 5am we weren't sure what to expect but after being greeted and checked into our double bedroom with private bathroom straightaway, we immediately felt comfortable. The hostel is always kept clean, the owners are always so lovely and helpful, and they have an amazing games room - table tennis, pool table, foosball table, out door soccer field and a gym! We also booked through the hostel our Colca Canyon 3d/2n trek with some others staying at the hostel for great value and we all had an amazing time. The tour included an English speaking guide, food, accommodation, stops at all scenic lookouts including Cruz del Condor and a relaxing stop at La Calera hot springs at Chivay. Definitely if you have time do the 3 day tour instead of 2. You can enjoy the canyon much more and with all the up and down climbing, your knees will appreciate the rest. We ended up staying at the hostel for two weeks in total enjoying the city and all the great places to eat and drink close by.

We had double room with private bathroom. The room was a bit small but comfortable and clean with a big window. The included breakfast was nice, the usual coffee/tea, bread, butter, jam, yogurt. Wifi was reliable and available in the room. The location is OK, only two blocks from Plaza de Armas however, it is on a street that is heavily used by buses so lots of exhaust when walking there but relatively quiet in the hostal. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, good place to stay and reasonably priced. Suggestions: shower curtain should be cleaned or replaced. The towel bar is missing so no place to hang a towel in the bathroom for room 202.

Room Tip: We had room 202 which is very quite.

This hostal is very clean and quiet. We stayed in both a large private room with bathroom and a dorm (we decided to stay longer) and all the facilities were clean. The hot water is dependable. The staff is very kind and helpful. Breakfast is simple, but very good, and is included in the price. The location is good, only a few short blocks from the Plaza de Armas. Be warned: the restaurants aren't as good on this side of the plaza. You have to go to the other side of the plaza to find really good food.

First, I was very embarrased of the appearence of the hostel, but a room was very good and clean. The staff were friendly, and while I waited to release the room, I was offered a hot cup of coffee. But for breakfast they served very stale bread and never cleared in my room.

We stayed one night in a massive double with ensuite. We were allowed to use the luggage storage as we went to the colca canyon and then hang around till our bus came. They arrange other tours as well. Small kitchen but they have an amazing games room and a computer room. Showers are 7 sole if you need one when you come back from a trip which I thought was reasonable. Short walk from the plaza.
