“Best Meal in Ecuador!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2014

We've been touring in Ecuador for two weeks. During that time, we've had many wonderful meals and stayed in lovely places. But lunch today at VillaRosa was absolutely, without a doubt the best meal we've had in Ecuador!!! First of all, the restaurant is a beautiful space and decorated exquisitely. The menu was varied and prices were incredibly low. Appetizers ranged from $4 to $7 and main courses from $9 to $15. Our group of four sampled several dishes and they were all delicious....pumpkin stuffed ravioli, sea food rositto, steak and an incredible hamburger. Desserts were a hot chocolate molten cake with ice cream and bananas flambé....both were to die for! As an added bonus....I had been searching for Ecuadorian wine every where we've been but no luck. Well, today I was delighted to find a very fine Ecuadorian red wine - yippee! Pedro, the owner spoke fabulous English and guided us through the menu. A delightful culinary experience, not to be missed!

“Elegant setting, courteous service, beautifully prepared dishes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2014

Our nearby hotel recommended Villa Rosa. What a wonderful first impression of the city.

The restaurant is indeed situated in an elegant setting, as other reviewers (below) have described - seating in what had been the courtyard as well as in several adjoining rooms, for pleasant table separation.

If they ever decide to offer high tea or champagne cocktails in the afternoon, the setting would be perfect.

Food service was prompt and waiters and management were politely attentive.
The caipirina with maracuya (fruit) was gorgeous and delectable, more so than the pedestrian sauvignon blanc (by the glass). The rather lame slices of bread delivered in a paper bag with the wine seemed like a "what doesn't belong" off note in their other wise stellar table setting and service.

Unlike one reviewer below, I did not consider the menu limited, but interesting and creative.
My husband ordered the marinated seafood salad and vegetarian ravioli. The varied seafood had a wonderful texture and we liked the tasty marinade but thought the black olives over powered the other flavors. The edible flower garnish was a pretty touch. His delicate ravioli were served in a very rich cream sauce, hot to the table. I ordered a cream of red pepper soup, with croutons and a swirl of soft cheese. It was beautifully presented but just ok. My seafood risotto was superb. The seafood broth permeated the flavor of the rice, and the toppings included shrimp, mussels, pulpo and other items. In between the courses, they served a small lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser.

Cost: We paid $65. .

Note: the bill includes 22%, for the IVA (12%) and a cover charge (10%) for staff, but not individual service tip.

Overall, this is a high end experience that may not be for everyone, but the management does it very well and I would definitely recommend it to others. It is six blocks NW of the cathedral.

“Fanciest restaurant in Cuenca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2014

This restaurant was remodeled months ago with an absolute exquisite taste . Very modern, cozy and fancy!

This is the right place for a special diner or for a business lunch .

The food is very good. Very fresh and well prepared .

It has a nice large bar , that invites you to arrive early and have a cocktail before the rest of the party arrives and then to join you before going to your table .

Totally recommended .

“Lovely meal and restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2014

Great food set in a great atmosphere.

Here you eat in what was the courtyard of an old traditional Spanish home. It has been remodeled into a spectacular enclosed restaurant.

The food was delicious. And the selection ranged from traditional Ecuadorian to more North American food.

All was well prepared and served perfectly.

Enjoy!
