“Great location, excellent value for the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

Very clean, nice beds, good breakfast and makes you feel at home. We loved the location being only a very short walk to the old town and a block away from a small upperscale mall with a supermarket.
Reception staff speaks English and was helpful.
Great value for the money.

Hotel is about a 7/10 minute walk into the historic city, so good location. Taxi would be best at night. Locally I walked out in the evening without any problem.
My room was spacious and clean. Hot water most days...not always.
Reception staff helpful and friendly, couldn't say the same for all staff in restaurant.
During my stay Sunday evening the restaurant only offered the cafeteria menu.
I would stay here again.

We needed two twin beds but got a large room for 5 (two doubles; one twin) with large windows facing street. Not for the early riser, as kitchen was not ready until 7:15. Cab drivers did not know hotel so it was good to have the address on-hand. Area is near stadium and therefore "abajo" or in the newer, lower part of town, about a 15 minute walk to the main plaza. Take along a map, the streets around the hotel are not always named as they are in the older part. We found the hotel area quiet, safe for two females running in the morning, with a few small restaurants and a supermarket a block away. No refrigerator, but there was a built-in hairdryer.

La Casona is clean, comfortable, and well located. It is a hostel type setting. You have off-street parking, if needed. You can walk to Cuenca's city center in 10 minutes. You have to climb some stairs, but only 3 flights. Good hot shower. Good bed. No heat or A/C, but it's not needed. Very good American breakfast included in the rate.

Very good!

Beautiful house, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast, quiet and very safe location.

When evaluating ecuadorian hostels one often has to keep in mind that things that are basic for us are not at all basic for developing countries (e.g. safety, english-speaking staff, reliability etc.).

Not so with hotel Casona: It is very well comparable to european-standard hotels, which is why the price is rather hefty for ecuadorians.

But still: very good value! recommendable!

Very nice hotel with all you could want. We dont like chain hotels, but prefer small B&B type accomodations. The desk clerk arranged for a private tour of a few places nearby we wanted to see. The guide used his car and we got a very personalized 8 hour tour for $40 for both of us. Breakfast very good. WOULD DEFINATELY STAY AGAIN.

We stayed here on two occasions during our first Ecuador trip. After having stayed in a few other hotels , we found this one to have extremely good value for what we were charged. The rooms were clean, the staff was very helpful and the grounds immaculate. Wifi functioned fine and there was a printer available for guests. The laundry service was fast and efficient. All in all, we would recommend this hotel to anyone. It was clear that they were trying very hard to make the guests comfortable and the staff had a genuine interest in knowing their clients.
