“Average hotel but great service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013 via mobile

Just arrived in Cuenca and need a place to stay one night until I move into my condo. Taxi from airport was three bucks. Front desk staff both spoke good enough English (better than my Spanish) and made check in easy. I'll be in Ecuador for 90 days so I have two large suitcases plus carry-on. Hotel has no elevators and all the rooms are on the second and third floors. Staff offered to keep luggage in office which was nice. The room was very small with a full bed, tiny shower and tiny separate toilet area. It's all I really needed though traveling by myself. The mattress on the bed was too firm for my liking, far from my pillow top. There are no ceiling fans or air condition so you just have to open the window. It's nice at night bit during the day it can become "stuffy". Some type of circulation would be nice. Over all not a bad experience, it's the first hotel in Ecuador I have ever stayed in so nothing to compare.

This was a "special" discounted offer. "Last Room." Payment up front. No refunds. The promo sounded enticing but it said 2 twins which made me skeptical. Took a chance anyways. Could not find the website on Google Chrome in order to have the hotel pick us up at the airport so we had to pay the $3 taxi fare. Otherwise there is a free shuttle between the hotel and airport. Check-in was excellent and flawless. We got a 3rd floor room overlooking the street and was much better than described in the promo. It was 2 twins + a double. The room was spacious with lots of closet space and immaculate. The decor was beautiful. The room came with an LED TV and DirecTV. The whole staff has been excellent. Everyone bends over backwards goes out of their way to make you satisfied. A hot breakfast is inclued as well as free coffee all day. There is also free use of the kitchen. No elevators.

Room Tip: The hotel is in a good location for sightseeing and shopping.

The location is only a few blocks from the main plaza and the old colonial mansion setting really married in with the beautiful buildings of Cuenca. The rooms are quite large with great bathrooms-the showers are great. The restaurant serves up a great meal and the staff are just really helpful and pleasant. It really was a lovely introduction to Ecuador.

We stayed at Los Balcones for a week and had a lovely room with a
kitchen in this lovely and reasonably priced Hotel. Everything was clean. The King size
bed was very comfortable. The staff was over the top. Paulo and Carla helped
my non-Spanish speaking husband each day with all his adventures. We had a great
breakfast each morning and reviewed our plans on the roof top.
Los Balcones is perfectly located. Definitely worth the price.

We loved Hotel Los Balcones. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are large (each with it's own balcony), and the location is perfect for exploring Cuenca. The staff are what really set this hotel apart--every person at Los Balcones is incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in making sure your stay at the hotel is wonderful. Breakfast is on a semi-open rooftop terrace and the breakfasts were some of the best we had during our month-long trip in Ecuador (get the french toast!). Los Balcones is a beautiful, cozy hotel for a great price.

Room Tip: Room number 9 has beautiful views to the new Cathedral and across the city. Noise was not a problem...

We stayed at Los Balcones for 8 nights towards the end of December 2012 and we are glad that we did. Like many things in Cuenca, and for that matter in most of Ecuador, this operation is small-scale and it does not overwhelm you like big establishments usually do. Staying at this place was like visiting a relatively well-off relative! The staff were incredibly helpful and genuine. We loved the terrace and I kept telling my wife that I could spend a lifetime there... eat, sleep, read, play and whatever else came in between! For us Los Balcones was located just at the right spot--not too far from the center of old-town but not too close either. We walked the length and breadth of old town and it always put a smile on my wife's face when after a long walk we would turn the corner and see Los Balcones' balconies in front of us. If I were to suggest an improvement it would be to replace the "cabin" showers; they might be efficient but they feel a bit tight and I am neither big nor a claustrophob :). However, I will return even if the showers are not replaced :) :)

Room Tip: There is traffic on two sides of the hotel but it did not make much of a difference for us because t...

These are the nicest people in the world. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms and bathrooms are large and have everything you need. Breakfast on the terrace is wonderful. Walking distance from everything - the park, the cathedrals, the river, many great restaurants. But if you don't feel like going out, the restaurant in the hotel is fantastic. The food was always delicious, but the staff went out of their way on Thanksgiving to create a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with an Ecuadorian twist. They were so excited about it and we were blown away by the quality and the care that they put into making us Expats feel at home on the holiday. I can't say enough about the good feeling and great service at this hotel.

Room Tip: If you like to watch the city, get a room on the street side. Noisy at times, but worth it!
