“Delightful and homely”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We had one night here before returning home; I wish we could have stayed longer! Located outside of the busier areas but easy enough to get to, the hotel provides an excellent place to stay. The building is homely and almost rustic but finished very well. The reception staff were incredibly helpful, even ironing my shirt instead bof lending me the iron and board! The room was terrific, although a creaky floorboard and a leaky toilet weren't ideal. However, plenty of storage space and a comfortable bed. We left too early for the proper breakfast but the stuff laid out was spot on, and some of the best coffee we'd had in a hotel. Would love to stay here again.

We stayed in room 11, which apparently is roomier and more comfortable than some of the others. We enjoyed our room very much. It was quiet, but located close to Gringolandia/Mariscal..able to walk. Breakfast is included. It is inconsistent, one morning good. The next...not so much. Staff was very accommodating and helpful.

Room Tip: Room 11 is quiet with no one overhead

Quaint Spanish style hostel in Quito. Stayed there at beginning and end of Ecuador vacation and very pleased with the experience. A lot of charm, beautiful landscaping, nice breakfast (huge). Staff was happy to arrange taxis and recommend dining options (Hasta La Vuelta, Senor was a marvelous venue, sea bass was excellent, just a couple blocks away).

Rooms are a bit small, but they make up in style what they may lack in size. Many nice little sitting areas.

$72 US per night, great breakfast included.

I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights this past March. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. First off, the breakfast was delicious. Especially the toast! Mari, our cook and waitress, was such a sweetheart. She was full of spirit and charm and was constantly checking to make sure we had enough food. One of the guys in my group had a birthday, and the hotel made him a special treat with a trick candle in it. The kitchen staff stayed and sang with us and we all had a good laugh when he couldn't blow the flame out. It was such a thoughtful gesture! Secondly, the rooms were absolutely charming. I stayed in a room with three other friends, and we never felt like the space was too cramped. The decoration was very simple, but the exposed brick wall and blue windows and doors was a very unique touch. The bathroom was fairly small, but it was never an issue for anyone in our group. I loved the rooms that opened to the outside in the courtyard. My room was in the main building, but it was fun going up the stairs to see other friends' rooms. Be prepared for stairs though, this is Ecuador and Vieja Cuba is full of them! Overall, my group's experience here was very welcoming and a great way to start our 10 day Ecuadorian excursion. I very highly recommend it!

Room Tip: There are a couple rooms that are in the adjoining outside area that don't require steep stairs...

I spent 6 nights at the hotel. Good location....with full supermarket up the road and restaurants up and down the street. Carlita, the receptionist was excellent, spoke very good English and organised private tours. The restaurant staff were very friendly. Breakfast was excellent and filling. Meals are also served at night. All round a very pleasant stay. My room was clean, hot shower and comfortable. The only drawback was the door to the room was glass panelled, so it let in all the light (night-time was like day) and it was very noisy. I asked other guests if they found it noisy and if the outside lights disturbed their sleep. And they all said yes. However, staff and location made up for these inconveniences.

We had 3 nights at the Vieja, which is more like a bed-and-breakfast than a luxury hotel but with staff like Carla at reception you are in very good hands. You almost have a feeling of being at home with your family as all the staff are very caring and more than helpful. The building is a re-build manor house with some interesting rooms, lots of character and close to the Mariscal district yet quiet during the night.
The rooms are basic and on the small side but neat and clean. The lack of heating is surprising but the blankets are adequate. Breakfast was good and served in a pleasant and personal manner. Very good value for money with free wifi throughout the hotel.
