“Beautiful, great breakfast, friendly service, and great for families!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights and thoroughly enjoyed it! The rooms are beautiful and some have balconies that overlook then streets of Quito! The breakfast is filling and delicious!! I would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel to all!! In addition, the service was fantastic, and the front desk clerks were extraordinarily welcoming and kind!

This hotel is a beautiful and well maintained little place in an excellent location in Quito. It is within walking distance of numerous shops, restaurants and night life. My wife and I stayed two, long and sleepless nights here and would not recommend it. We were initially assigned a room with two twin beds. The clerk graciously moved us to another room (22) with a queen sized bed that had a slab of granite as a mattress. It was so hard it reminded me of camping on the ground with no pad. The room was just above and behind the kitchen and the smell of cooking gas wafted through all night. In addition to the nauseating smell of gas, the staff was up all night banging pots and having a loud giggle and laughing party in the common hall where all could hear. The local night club was a rock’ in and rolling until 3Am and was so loud it sounded as though they were doing so in our shower. All this resulted in about two hours of broken and periodic sleep Saturday night. At 5 AM on Sunday morning it was time to change the gas cylinder for the kitchen which resulted in a very very loud bang followed by several equally loud crashes and much discussion from the five individuals that were required to complete the task in 30 minutes. At 6 AM the young female staff was back at the loud giggle and laughing party outside in the walkway with no regard for sleeping guests. Breakfast was mediocre and the strong coffee was cold. We attributed all this activity to the weekend and hoped that Sunday night would be better, to no avail. 10 PM time to change the gas cylinder again, 10 PM to 3 AM laundry room buzzer sounding to inform us of each wash and dry cycle of sheets and towels and don’t forget giggly and laughing staff up late. Our 415 AM wakeup call never came but we didn’t sleep all night so no concern. The “taxi” that the was arranged for us by the desk clerk was on time however it was a just a kid in a car, probably a relative of the clerk. He was asleep in the car out front and had to rousted by her as we stood and waited for him. This place was beautifully decorated and maintained and is a prime example of what an unprofessional staff can do.

Room Tip: Do not get a room outside the main reception building and avoid room 22 if you dare stay here

It's a lovely hotel in the New Town section of Quito. Breakfast was good, especially the coffee. I liked the staff and the rooms were very good. I heartily recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor.

We used Vieja Cuba as our home base three times during a month in Ecuador. This small inn, about 25 rooms, is located a short block from the Mindale Museum, on Diego de Almagaro 1212 and La Nina streets, just north of the Mariscal Sucre area, and near lots of restaurants and night life. Interior design is three floors of meandering rooms and small public living spaces. There are old photos of Cuba on the walls and brightly painted blue doors and colorful accents. Lodging here includes breakfasts which offer more choices than most anyone could want, and dinners (sold separately) included beef, chicken and pasta dishes, with sides and limited deserts. We did not use the full bar, but others enjoyed mixed drinks. Cable TV and wi-fi are in the rooms. A very comfortable place with friendly, helpful staff who were consistent over the month (we came three times). As a modest price hotel, it was charming and delightful. The hotel is very clean and well maintained and every room has a different layout and design. There are only stairs to reach the upper floors so, although staff are happy to carry your bags up, you must walk. Ask for a lower floor room if you want to avoid stairs. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, even when it came to our 4 am departure. We paid $75 for a double (including taxes), through our excellent travel agent, Diego at Columbus Travel in Quito.

Room Tip: Staff carry your bags UP stairs, but you climb. Some rooms are sot stories inside. Just let them or...

We stayed here for two nights. Good location, good breakfast, certainly more to our style than a big tower hotel. Although we speak Spanish, the dedk staff also spoke English. There's a really good restaurant across the street. We're going back in a few months.

I found this property on Trip Advisor and was really pleased that I did.

The property is clean and attractive, with spacious rooms. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included in my rate, and was great. The location was good, US$6 from the airport and around US$3 to get to the old town area. There are plenty of restaurants to suit all budgets nearby, so even if you’re just passing through, you can find plenty of food choices close by.

Overall, a really nice place to stay, which I’m very happy to recommend.

We took a rather fast (and seat gripping) 15 min cab ride to the hotel...and arriving late from the states were greeted by a kind staff who lugged our bags to the 3 floor suite, opened the balcony doors, turned on the lights and turned down our bed.
The room was a beautiful 2 story suite...extremely clean and well appointed with a definite old world flare. Its in the historic distric on a quiet street and within a 5 min walk to numerous easteries and cafes.

Breakfast was wonderful...and the hostess was just about the kindest person we met on our wonderful and adventurous trip. Minni, the clerk, helped us with flight cancelations, acted as an enterpreter and we brought her back a scarf from a vendor in Puerto Lopez.

Just a very relaxing and warm stay on a hectic but amazing trip!

Room Tip: 3rd floor are all balcony suites
