Description: Located in the emerging neighborhood of San Marcos along Old Town Quito's traditional Junin street, La Cuchara de San Marcos is a new green endeavor in Ecuador. Our restaurant features vegetarian, gourmet twists on traditional Ecuadorian dishes using organic ingredients from local farms, as well as fusion plates using organic chicken, fish, and meat. La Cuchara is also home to an art gallery and store featuring jewelry, accessories, and crafts made with recycled products by local artisans. We are also a nano-brewery, focusing on hoppy ales and the occasional Belgian, while featuring other local craft brews.

“Absolutely Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

My family went on an afternoon between lunch and dinner hours and were treated like royalty. We had the beautiful courtyard to ourselves where our children played with the owners child. The setting is a virtual urban oasis. Although I am not a vegetarian, I couldn't stop raving about the food, especially the mashed potato balls rolled in sesame and quinoa. Make sure to try the Japanese method of brewing coffee. Ecuadorean coffee is the worlds best, and this method only enhances it. We will come back every time we are in Quito. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

“Far and away my favorite restaurant in Quito!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

I've been living and traveling across Central and South America for the last ten years, and this is (I don't say it lightly) the best vegetarian cuisine I've found. Extremely fresh, imaginatively prepared, and delicious. And what's great is that it's not only vegetarian, boasting a wonderful selections of fish, poultry and meats. And if you like a good cocktail (Manhattans and Old Fashions!) or an American microbrew while you're away from home, you can't beat this spot. Also, the ambiance is simply charming - a large colonial style home with connecting hardwood floor salons, high ceilings, with an urban jazz decor. At night the place is candle lit and cool, with excellent music. In the day, the patio feels like Europe with a view of the Andes. Ohh, and if you order a coffee, get ready for a delicious cup from a Japanese Siphon (yeah pretty geeky, but delicious). And finally, it's a family place - the owners are a wonderful couple with a darling little kid. Great all around. (P.S. I never write on Trip Advisor, but this restaurant made me feel the need to share with others!)

“Felt like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012 via mobile

Great experience. We appreciated their focus on being "green", including their recycled decorations, focus on organic foods, and the selling of bottles that can be recycled. My husband and I both tried vegetarian dishes and thought they were well done. Unfortunately, there were no craft beers available when we went as they had recently sold out and their own batch was not yet ready. The owner travels around the world to buy craft beers and ingredients to brew his own beer, which would have been a spectacular change from the pilsner or club that most places only have available. With that aside, the organic coffee was amazing - brewed in a Japanese syphon on your table. Overall, great experience and I would highly recommend it.

“Lovely restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

The place was slightly difficult to find but it was a lovely meeting place for an afternoon lunch. Kevin the American proprietor was very friendly, easy to chat to and the food was wonderful. Unfortunately they had run out of beers earlier in the week but a wonderful local cocktail was provided that was very tasty (unfortunately I cannot recall what the name was). Highly recommended.

I don't what was better if the food or the drinks. Beutiful place in a one of the most traditional neighborhoods in the Quito, perfect for taking a break after walking the hills of the old city.
I'm not a vegetarian but I didn't miss the meat a bit!
