“Quirky Comfort Boutique Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

If you are looking for a unique boutique hotel that will be unlike any other you've ever stayed in, than choose Cafe Cultura. A large group of ours stayed here for several nights before our trip to the Galapagos and we got to check out each other rooms, as promised, every single one was different in design. Anyone with walking/climbing difficulties should ask for a first floor room. A staircase leads to the second floor of rooms, and for those who are up for a climb, head to the third floor "attic rooms". Best part of our stay - sitting down in the lobby area, library and dining room where roaring fires were lite while we enjoyed our wine. Suggest you bring a hair dryer with you - the hotel only has 1 or 2 so we ended up passing these between our group. The hotel staff is very courteous. Do not despair if you arrive at night and the entrance is gate is locked - simply press the buzzer and the staff will be there in minutes. This is a very comfortable hotel, but not high end luxury. Best suited for adventure travelers who enjoy inns, boutique hotels and/or bed and breakfast types of stays.

This is the place to stay in Quito to pamper yourself.
The staff are pleasant and very friendly.
The onsite restaurant is very exquisite and has a very original and delicious menu.
The beds are, in my opinion, the most comfortable that I have slept on so far in Ecuador!
I highly recommend a stay at Cafe Cultura.

Room Tip: Room 9 is ground level and close to the gate. It also has a king sized bed and a large french bath t...

I stayed here recently on a recommendation. The hotel is uniquely decorated and staff are friendly, but I was given a small room where I couldn't even open my suitcase properly and the light is so poor that it was impossible to read at night. There is also no TV . Although they boast of a library, the books are old and tatty.Even at the discounted price I had, never mind the normal price, I feel it is overpriced.

I've beento Cafe Cultura twice now and both times have been wonderful. We were a large group but and they catered to us. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are unique and no two are the same. The food is delicious. I look forward to going back next year. Thanks Cafe Cultura for always making our stays special.

We stayed here at the beginning and end of an Amazon jungle expedition and the place is great. funky for sure, not a corporate hotel. I agree with the other reviews, nice living-room style feel, free WiFi, the one complaint is they have taken the eco- thing a little too far with the room lighting, few and dim, you can read an iPad but not a book, or even see inside your suitcase! Not a big deal.

I stayed at Cafe Cultura in January 2013 for about 9 days and nights, and I couldn't have been more pleased. The rooms were all decorated uniquely with beautiful furniture and paintings on the walls, the beds were the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, the showers were nice and hot, and the staff was so incredibly welcoming and kind! The food and coffee were so delicious! I got to stay in a few different rooms, with room #1 being my favorite with it's huge king sized bed with a dreamy canopy, fireplace, and a massive bathroom with a luxurious bathtub and intimate lighting. Even the owner was present regularly, and was incredible friendly and welcoming. I wouldn't stay anywhere else after my stay there, it's the perfect place! I'll definitely be going back and staying at Cafe Cultura!

Room Tip: Room 1 is the most romantic and luxurious room for sure, though all the rooms have their own charm...

Cafe Cultura is a one-of-a-kind place, a marvellously-restored mansion, the former French Cultural Center. Evening candles, fire blazing in the old fireplace, murals throughout, just lovely. This is decidedly not a cookie-cutter hotel like the Marriott. We were greeted with an offer of a drink, so my husband opted for a beer while I had a very delicious tree-tomato juice (my favorite Ecuadorean juice flavor!!). You do hear people walking on the wooden hallways for he early morning departures, and on friday night, street noise was loud, too. (less on weekdays.) It seemed like one of the rooms by the outside courtyard would be quieter. The outside gate was locked, so you felt safe. There were people from around the world staying here, a base for their adventures around Ecuador. It was a cool intro to this country to meet all these diverse people. We walked to Plaza Foch, which was not such a great place (crowds, touristy) although Mama Clorinda's did have good Ecuadorian food. The area was okay, but I preferred our later stay in the Old Town for location. But this place otherwise had great atmosphere and friendly service. Our room included a pitcher of fresh water, hairdryer, nice, modern bathroom, and was spacious.
