“a very comfortable, safe and clean hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2009

We spent a night on our way to and from the Galapagos, arriving extremely late after a delayed flight. to be cared for by excellent reception service, and early morning departure all handled well. On our way back we had another night and were able to have a lovely breakfast and a superb evening meal...... a very nice experience

Everything about this hotel was nice. The delicious breakfast is on the top floor, with a wonderful view of the city. The people were very helpful, and spoke English. Nice computer room. The casino is wimpy compared to what I've been to in the U.S., but on a par with other casinos I saw in So. America on this trip.

The negative things first:

When visiting Quito this spring we stayed at this hotel for a total of six nights. Five of these nights had been booked through GAP Adventures and we got a good price. The first night, however, was not in connection with a GAP tour so we had to book it ourselves. I realise that you get a much better price when booking through an agency like GAP but for the first night we had to pay USD 130 plus taxes for a double superior room in spite of the fact that the rate, according to the hotel's website, should be USD 95 for a similar room. Breakfast was not included in the price, it cost an extra USD 12.50 per person. We don't eat that much for breakfast so we didn't want to pay such a high price. Instead we had breakfast for USD 3.05 (eggs, juice, bread and coffee or tea) at Arenas, avenida La Coruña, which is very close to the hotel.

The service at the reception desk was just average. On two occations, for instance, we asked two different members of the staff to show us on a Quito map where Hotel Quito was and they gave us incorrect instructions.

And then the positive things:

We had two different rooms at the hotel and both were nice, spacious and clean.

Except for the first morning, we had breakfast in the top restaurant which has a magnificient view of the surroundings. Very good breakfast with lots to choose from and the service in the breakfast room was impeccable.

You feel very secure at this hotel.

The doormen are very polite, friendly and give good service.

You can safely store your luggage while going on tours.

The use of internet is free.

The hotel has a beautiful garden.

The hotel has little a shop where you cannot only by souvenirs, postcards and stamps but also certain medicine.

There is also a hairdresser in the lobby. I had my hair cut there and was very satisfied.

Close to the hotel there is a very good restaurant, Hunter's. We had dinner there five times.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 separate nights during a trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos. We left luggage at the hotel between the different legs on the trip.

It is a reasonable, modern hotel with nice rooms, a swimming pool and spa/gym in beautiful gardens and a very good restaurant. There are some shops round the lobby. Aircraft fly low overhead at some times of the day which can be a bit disconcerting. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.

Not a charmiing or high luxury hotel, but a good base for the rest of our trip. We would use it again if we had to stay in Quito.

Had this hotel as a base before and after a trip to the Galapagos islands. It is a nice hotel and the location is quite fantastic, with views over the valley. It is facinating to sit in the top floor restaurant and have breakfast (very nice buffee breakfast!) and see how the clouds come rushing up the mountains only to leave again a few minutes later.
Taking taxis to the Old city or shopping districts is easy from here.

Room was fine, a bit old fashioned but fully functional. Free internet in the rooms. Service was good although it had the slight south American twist of chaos sometimes.

I get the feeling that this hotel is living quite a bit on old fame, but it is still a nice place. I would recommend this place if you want a safe and convenient base of operations in Quito for a few days.

I had a most pleasant stay at Hotel Quito last week. It is in convenient location, clean, quiet with an excellent buffet breakfast in the top floor restaurant overlooking the city. Dinner menu was also top notch. Rooms are quiet and comfortable. Staff was very helpful.

Booked this hotel based on a review in the Lonely Planet and I was very dissapointed. It is an outdated and rundown hotel. My biggest problem aside from the actual appearance of the hotel itself was the service of the staff. They really need to take courses in hospitality as none of them were overly helpful or friendly. There are much nicer hotels in Quito and this one should be avoided.
