“nice, romantic hotel, but....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

a converted double-storey family home with inner courtyard and period furniture, with lots of lovely decorations and plants. There is a reading room, a dining/now common room with tea making and great (free) Wifi. The breakfast in the attached restaurant is very good. You can buy dinner there as well. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

The downside is the service. We needed to ask to have the bathroom cleaned (remember, in Ecuador used toilet paper cannot be flushed away....), then we had no towels, and the small safe in the room is not fixed, so anyone could just take the whole lot! Leave valuables with staff. The room is adequate, a bit old and basic, the bed and pillows hard.

Location is great, in the middle of the historic quarter. Walk to lots of small eateries and interesting shops - but you need Spanish! Also buses go everywhere from here.
Also be careful about directions, nobody seems to get their East and West right....and there is confusion about the old and the new airport. It took our taxi 75 mins from airport to hotel, though it only cost $26 (in reverse it's dearer). Keep this in mind if you have a very early flight out! The new airport is near the suburb of Tababela, and there is no direct quick road to it from the historic quarter..

Beautiful place, great staff. Restaurant was lacking. The Beds were uncomfy. Good location. We only stayed one night but we enjoyed the homey feel and beautiful atrium. The rooms were basic but clean.

I spent 3 nights here in the end of December and absolutely loved the place. The hotel is ideally located just a stone throw away from Plaza San Francisco in the heart of Quito Old Town. The interior is beautiful and one of a kind. The first time I was a bit hesitant to sit down on a couch because it looks like a museum. The staff is very attentive as well and the breakfast is very delicious. Top pick, especially for a romantic getaway.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations of a 3 star hotel in quito. I arrived late at night and after a problem with a taxi at the airport, the hotel were super nice about sorting this out for me. The hotel is located in a great spot, central to lots of the action in quito old town. When I walked out on the morning after arrival, i rounded then corner into plaza San Francisco and wow.....
However, the main thing this hotel has going for it is the friendly, helpful, family nature of the staff. Sonia (mum) and her sons are lovely folk, Claudia ( assistant) is friendly and super helpful and the night staff could not be nicer. I felt safe, well looked after and part of the family. I went back to stay here on 3seperate occasions and normally would like to try out different hotels. Enough said! Great price for what you get and a lovely old style quito residence. Highly recommended if this is in your rice range.

My fiance and I arrived at this hotel extremely late at night after flying into Quito and driving one hour from the airport we were greeted by a young man who didn't speak english (I can get by in Spanish so this was ok) who was so helpful and nice! He helped us with all of our luggage up a few flights of stairs, showed us where we could have breakfast, showed us the common area with complimentary hot tea, coffee, and cookies, and let us get some rest.

We awoke the next morning to see how absolutely spectacular this hotel really is! It has the most beautiful wrought iron ceiling decor and stained glass in the ceiling. It is like stepping back in time. The decor is very old and the furniture is at least one hundred years old in the sitting area. We were very comfortable here! The accommodation is not very sound proof and I imagine upon our arrival we woke some guests (even though we were trying to be quiet.) It is just a very old building but the staff, decor, and area totally make up for this!

Breakfast was lovely! We woke late and they were nice enough to wait for us before they shut it down.

The staff are very helpful and seem to be very proud of the hotel. The owners son was very informative. He told us that the restaurant that served us breakfast also did dinner. He set us up outside beside a fireplace and we had some local friends of the owner come and play the piano as well. It was like a dream! I had the best trout carpaccio EVER! It was so good I often think about it!

All in all, we were there for 2 nights as we were heading to the Galapagos, but we had such a nice time! The location is wonderful... Right in the Old Town of Quito. It does not look like much from the street (in fact arriving at 1:00am I was a bit frightened!) but it is wonderful!

Thank you for the lovely stay!

This was a great place to stay. A lot of people have commented about the noise, and I really didn't think it was that bad. For anyone who has stayed in a house with children or people that isn't soundproofed, you will be fine here. It is noisy outside with the window open, but we closed it and drew the shades and were fine. The breakfast was delicious, they have fresh squeezed juice and have someone walk down to a bakery to pick up fresh bread. The beds were comfortable and the location is great. It's a few feet away from Plaza San Francisco. We drove and were able to park our car right inside the main entrance, so it was no problem to get in and out. (Locals helped let us know when the coast was clear without us even asking.) This was a great place to stay in Quito.

We stayed at this authentic and charming historic site for several nights before and one night after a 3 week birding trip to southern Ecuador. Great historic Quito location up the street from the Plaza de San Francisco and its wonderful church, museum and Fair Trade cafe and gift shop. The building was once a convent with a typical central atrium now covered with a glorious stained glass roof. The restaurant downstairs had very good breakfast (included) with eggs cooked to order. Excellent wifi access. The proprietor, Sonia, is a gem. Taxi? Dinner? Laundry? 3 a.m. Breakfast? No problem. Very comfortable and welcoming.
