On our two-week trip, half in Ecuador and half in Galapagos,Guanguiltagua Expeditions gave us excellent advice. They put this on the M/S Cachalote, which is a smaller boat accommodating a maximum of 16 passengers. Both the crew and guide were superb. We would recommend them without hesitation.
For the week in Ecuador we wanted to visit Quito, Otavalo and Banos. In general, their advice for this week was very helpful. The one exception is with respect to travel between the cities. They recommended against renting a car because of traffic and the poor roads. In general, I agree with this advice. However, their offer of providing a car and driver for $240 a day seemed very steep. We did use their car and driver from Otavalo to Banos for $290 (plus meal and tip for the driver). However, we took a bus from Banos to Quito for $14 (for four) and then another $12 to our hotel on the opposite end of town. This was considerably less than the car rental proposed by Guanguiltagua Expeditions and was not an option suggested by them. We enjoyed the bus ride and considered it one of the highlights of our trip.

We always emphasize to our clients the fact that in such a short amount of time is always good to hire our car+guide service, in this way our fellow travellers can see much more than from a bus seat and make plenty of stops along the Andean, Jungle an coast roads in order to take photos and receive explanatino form our guides.
Unfortunately these services can be more costly due to the fact that our vehicles are special expedition ones which have special gear and features that allow our passengers to enjoy amazing rides on amazing roads, and the most important fact is that our cars are more secure than any others. Riding our expedition jeeps provide you with safety. This is one of the very important rules while traveling on the Ecuadorian roads, en we care about this in our company.
At the end, the cost/effect/quality relationship ends up into a great travel experience, lots of customers can tell that as you can read into the Trip Advisor forum and reviews.
We are glad you enjoy the Cachalote yacht sold by us and that our advice tio travel independently trough Ecaudor was helpful, we hope that you come across again to Ecuador in order to provide you with more fun experiences.
