“Specialty Shops”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

We were here on a Friday afternoon and the street was very quiet. This was fine as we were able to do our shopping and spend some time with the shop keepers. There is a fabulous hat store and an equally fabulous chocolate store along this street. I would recommend checking out both of them.

For families there is a resident jester who is very helpful. He offers directions and has many games along the street for kids to play.

On the Friday evening this street was packed! There were so many people wandering - but parking was very hard to come by.

Enjoyable day or night.

“A bit disappointing, not a lot open...”

We headed down about 6pm and hardly anything was open and the street was pretty deserted... We ended up having a hot chocolate and leaving...

“Quaint restored alleyway along the river at the bottom of the hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We were pleased to stroll along La Ronda street, recommended by two Quitense ladies, finding it a pleasant pastime for half a day in D/T Quito. There are bars and nighttime haunts, as some prefer the nightlife and live music offered up, but we found the entrance and exit to Ronda Street area a little dicey. I stumbled upon a half-naked boy crying on a bridge at one end who seemed to be the victim of some domestic violence which I reported to a gaggle of cops at the far exit of the alleyway. They did nothing, of course... So for my money, I say, go in the daytime for lunch and some browsing.

La Ronda offers numerous attractive shops with local crafts and myriad places to dine or blow your spare change on pricey chocolates. "Peregringo", another TA reviewer, did purchase some after we grazed on all their samples for a while!

We ended up eating at a little indoor patio called La Negra Tentacion: marvelous food, attentive service from the owner, and a place to sample the recovered fine cuisine of Ecuador. We learned a great deal about the ingredients and local dishes. They make Helado de Paila, a specialty in Quito, which is homemade crank-turned ice cream. I had the canelazo which is a cool short drink made with naranjilla juice, cinnamon, and white lightnin´ liquor.
We tried some of the typical empanadas and yuca fried snackies, their mixed salad, and tasted the seco de chivo.

Experiment to your heart´s content is my advice for all the local Ecuadoran fare. We were never disappointed!

“Excellent Local Restaurant/Diverse Menu/Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We were taken to La Ronda by local friends - the restaurant has a friendly atmosphere - the food is very local with many Ecuadorian specialties - and it is delicious.

“Sunday afternoon on Calle la Ronda”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

was wonderful when I went in May. Few turistas and many places open,. not all spiffed up and charging tourist prices -- just charming personality to shops and restaurants, bars and a simple place for rich and poor to meet! It felt like a small city calle in Espana. ( I live in Quito and have not been here before) Disfrutalo!
