“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2012

Was in Quito for business for a few days and some friends took me to Hacienda Rumiloma for dinner. It's an adventure getting up to Rumiloma as it is way above Quito on the side of the Volcano Pichincha on a steep dirt road but that is part of the fun. We arrived right before dark so were able to see the view both in the daylight and in the dark and it is spectacular. Quito is about 10,000 ft above sea level and Rumilona must be about another 1,500 ft higher as we were above the clouds. The restaurant had a very warm and cozy feel to it. Service was excellent and the food even better. They brought us an amuse bouche and we shared an artichoke appetizer. Everyone loved their main course; mine was the surf and turf which consisted of langostino and filet mignon. We shared dessert which was 3 petite creme brulees with different flavor. This place is so charming and the food so good that I look forward to visiting it again on my trip to Quito.

If you want a quite place, pinned against the mountains with stunning views of Quito stay or at least have dinner at hacienda Rumiloma. We stayed at various hotels in Quito and Rumiloma is way better than any other place. It is close to the airport ( 15 minutes), the telepherico and the old town but you feel you are away from it all. The views are spectacular both during the day and at night. There is a warm and wonderful atmosphere in this rustic but extremely comfortable place which is privately owned and run by the Laree family. The rooms are large and well decorated with antiques picked by the owner, an enthusiastic and great Irish woman, Amber, married to an Ecuadorian mountain climber. Amber and her staff go out of their way to be helpful from nice fire wood places lit in the room, hot water bottles, recommendations about what to do in Quito and beyond to special attentions like bringing oregano tea when they noticed I had stomach issues. We loved that Amber was more than willing to share her knowledge of Ecuadorian history, culture and wildlife with us. Amber and her mother in law treated us to some of the best food in Ecuador for lunch and dinner; breakfast too was delicious with plenty of food from fresh juices and fruit salad to a special tortilla prepared specially for my son.
Rumiloma is perfect whether to relax, as a stop over, as a starting place for exploring Quito or a wonderful dinner experience.

We are family that travels extensively and we´ve stayed in some amazing places. that being said , my kids keep asking me when we will be able to go back to Hacienda Rumiloma... I understand why.

We visited Rumiloma while exploring Ecuador , before embarking on the Celebrity Xpedition to Galapagos.

This beautiful place is perched above Quito . It has everything. Gorgeous decor , delicious food , impeccable service. Amber , the owner , is an interior designer and it shows. Every little detail has obviously been thought out with care and love.

Our family stayed in the Valentina Suite. I loved the wood , the antiques , the copper in the bathrooms. The beds were made up with Ecuadorian woven blankets and the toiletries were heavenly. The only drawback was it was a bit dark at night.

The restaurant serves exquisite local fare with international flare. The price is not Ecuadorian , but it is well worth it. I still can´t stop thinking the desserts including the most amazing cheesecake.

Our breakfasts were served in the restaurant- fresh fruits , banana cheese pancakes (yum!), made to order eggs . One of the highlights. A half an hour before breakfast coffee and hot chocolate were served in our room with a pre-breakfast treat. In the afternoon , fresh cookies awaited us.

The staff made kites with our children. They did everything to accomodate us and were so kind to our family. I am so glad we found this place. I highly recommend it!

Saw this place in the nytimes right before heading out to Ecuador and had to give it a try. The drive to the place had me on edge, but upon arrival, I was greeted by friendly staff and an upscale, but comfortable atmosphere. Food and service was excellent. Menus are simply laid out in both english and spanish. There is a lot of variety, but definitely recommend sampling the delicious appetizers. The owner (spanish and english fluent) actually came to the table and had a brief chat with us. I thought that was a very "old school", but much appreciated thing to do and really contributed to the intimacy of the place. The only subpar point of the experience was that it was nighttime when we arrived so we missed the excellent view.

My husband and I just spent our honeymoon in Ecuador and could not be more happy with our hotel choice for Quito. Hacienda Rumiloma is like no place I have ever been before. From the world-class service to the gorgeous accommodations (every nook and cranny contains authentic antiques and art from Ecuador) to the INCREDIBLE food, you will not be disappointed. Plus, the owners are incredibly giving people, supporting various causes in and around their community. You'll feel good knowing that your patronage is helping to support their charitable works! The whole experience felt like a dream. My husband and I are already planning how we can make it back for our anniversary!

We were passing through Quito on the way to the Galapagos Islands and decided to stay for an extra day. One of our traveling companions had just been to Quito to climb and his guide introduced him to the restaurant at Hacienda Rumiloma.
We called them and they sent two taxis to take us from downtown Quito to their mountaintop retreat for dinner. Bottom line, it was fabulous! Phenomenal service, incredible decor and the food rivaled anything we had ever experienced. All fresh and all local sourced.
Be prepared, the ride up the mountain to it is an experience. You may wonder were you are going, but once there, you will be amazed.
