“Great value and awesome location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2012

Great location in the Mariscal area, Hostal El Arupo is a really nice, clean and very friendly hostal. It's basic but not wanting for anything and is great value. The staff are all very friendly and the breakfast is very good too. We had a private room with bathroom and were as happy staying here as anywhere else we've stayed, even places much more expensive. It can be a little noisy at night given the proximity of the bars etc but that's the tradeoff you make for such a great location.

Room Tip: The private rooms with bathroom are great value!

If you want to stay in new town (I preferred old town), this is a good location. Very clean, quiet - especially for new town, hot water 24 hours/day, helpful staff.

Room Tip: Room 13 was quiet, on 2nd floor.

This is the second time I've stayed here. The family who runs the hostal are very nice and accommodating. The rooms in general are small and sparsely furnished with dropped ceiling and a small tv fixed to the wall that gets local channels from the tv antenna. However, the fact that the rooms are clean goes a long way here in Ecuador.
If you're able to stay in a room near the front of the house facing the quiet side street and you're fortunate enough to not have neighbors you'll have a great stay. However if you find yourself in a room near the rear of the house the bars and clubs on the next street will keep you up till 3 in the morning. Either that or the sound of your neighbors getting in late or waking up early and using the bathroom will make sleeping a challenge.

I'm writng from my sunny room in the Hostal El Arupo, a pleasant little B&B on tree-lined calle Juan Rodriguez, in Quito's Barrio La Mariscal, which is my new preferred lodge in the Ecuadorian capital. I come to Quito once or twice a year and had stayed at a place recommended by a friend the last few visits, but it was was not terribly comfortable, so I pounded the pavement and poked my nose into half a dozen La Mariscal's less expensive lodges. I found this place to be a notch above the rest, for just a few dollars more - clean, attractive, a nice TV room, porch and tiny garden that is a popular spot with hummingbords. It's the tenth, or fifteenth hotel I've stayed at in Quito, a few of which cost 5 to 7 times as much, so are in a different league, but if you're watching youre budget, as I usually am, this is the best option I've found. The only problem, with La Mariscal in general, is the disco throb of the late-nigh party scene that floods the are on Friday and Saturday nights.

Room Tip: Nothing fancy, but clean and tastefully decorated. No phone, but Wi-Fi & cable TV. The one's...

Staff was wonderful, very friendly and helpful, they also made a great breakfast. I spent three weeks in Ecuador and I stayed at this Hostal three different times. They had their work cut out for them- there were twenty eight of us many of whom were minors. It was safe and clean, two things that are important in Quito. There is a great little common room downstairs with internet, a tv, dvd player, and stone/ceramic fire place. It just felt cozy.
