4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Loved the port, the breeze off the bay, the big ships, the neighborhood. Very romantic. Though it is beautiful (& better wifi connection) staying on the bottom floor, (Room 4) be aware that if you enjoy leaving open the window & shades & tall french doors onto to the lovely small balcony open in summer, the tourists snapping photos of themselves along the passage can see you in the room. Loved it there though.

The hotel is not recommended. The hotel is a fire trap with no escape routes from the first floor. Not suitable for disabled and families with children. Boring breakfast buffet. Lot of noise day and night. Untrustworthy and untruthful hotel manager, when he makes a mistake with our booking.
Only 1 or 2 stars for this bad hotel.

This hotel is definitely full of personality. It is gorgeous and sits up in the hills so it has a great view from the patio. The rooms are very cute, though a bit small. It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room for cold drinks. Service was very friendly. We ate there once for lunch and once for dinner - both times the food was delicious.

A beautiful classic hotel with an incredible view of the bay in the historic part of town. Walk to wonderful restaruants and shops and some of the best outdoor murals you will ever see. This is not for those who want an anywhere in the world hotel with all the blandness that means. It is for people who like to travel and enjoy a touch elegance while experiencing the cultures and asethetics they visit. Great service, enjoyable restaurant (although this area has some outrageously wonderful restaurants so we only ate in the first night when we arrived bushed) and decent breakfast. Indeed, our only complaint was the eggs at breakfast had nmeet in them, a problem for one of us who was a vegetarian. But there was plenty of fruit and other good things. Enjoy and relax.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 1,2, or 3 or for one with a balacony overlooking the bay. 2 has a jacuzzi tub.

The hotel is located on the hill of Valparaiso which means you get great views across into the harbour. Initially the hotel is very hard to find as if you are using the streets to get to the hotel, you will make more turns in the windy backstreets of Valpa than a F1 driver. However, there is a historic old lift that takes you from the main street of Valparaiso up to basically right near the front entrance of the hotel. So once you know this, it's a lot easier to find the hotel.

Breakfast was included in our room package, however it's nothing too flash. Some fruit, yoghurt, juice and toast.

The room we had, had a lovely little balcony that opened up with views of the harbour. Simply spectacular! We were warned when we checked in that the hotel water takes a bit of time in the morning which was true. So best to start the shower, get your clothes ready and then return to the shower 5 mins later to start your shower. The bathrooms are very small and I would not recommend it if you are elderly or a large person as you need to step into and out of the shower and move around nimbly in the small space.

There is a bit of noise in the hotel which really cannot be the fault of the hotel. As the floorboards are wooden, you do hear people walking around upstairs at the start of the morning. Not really loud but I could hear it. And if you leave your doors balcony doors open at night, you will hear the party atmosphere of downtown Valpariso especially during summer which is when it is at it's peak. However you are in a resort town, so you cannot expect too much peace ad quiet.

Overall the hotel was good, a tad on the expensive side for Valpariso. The staff have limited English skills, although are very helpful and accommodating. Rooms have excellent views.

Room Tip: Use the lift located around the corner to get to and from the main street of Valparaiso. Do not use...

The location is great, but it has to get more parkings urgently, altough the crew was helpful in this matter.
The restaurant was ok. The most serious problem is the noise, so it is very difficult to rest, you can hear everything from your room.

This hotel is one of my favorites. Built in 1870, the hotel exudes history, with magnificent views over "Valpo" and Vina Del Mar. Sitting in the outdoor bar area on a hot day drinking a cold beer, was delightful. The staff are friendly, courteous and are only too eager to please. The hotel is only 5 mins from downtown Valpo via the Acensor Concepcion, for those that are game to ride it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel is the fruit of lengthy restoration work to recover one of the homes of greatest cultural value in the hills of Valparaiso, measuring more than 11,000 square feet. This house was built by European immigrants circa 1870. The imposing building, now transformed into a boutique hotel, uniquely portrays, through its welcoming setting, the lifestyles of the generations of families that lived on the hill. The house’s architecture takes you back in time to the mode of life at the end of the 19th century. Luxury refurbishings concordant to the comforts of a five-star hotel interweave discreetly throughout the patrimonial air in the house, creating just the right cross between tradition and modernness. ... more   less
