“Good Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

I normally use the hotel chain when travelling within Chile and Diego de Almagro hotel in Valpraiso does well to keep the standard of the chain. I read the negative reviews here before using the hotel but dont have any complains regarding security and the restaurant. Room service from the restauarant was fast and on time; as you can see from one of my photos the room includes a safe where you keep your valuables; checkout bill also reflected what I had used during my stay. My booking was for 2 nights and I found the hotel affordable. The only complain I had was that checking out was a bit slow. An English speaking lady (who could speak dutch, spanish and english) was very helpful and cordial during the process.

We went in a group of 4 adults and 6 kids over the national day holidays (September 18th). The rooms are good, the rates are relatively cheap, and the hotel is well located for exploring the "flat" areas in Valparaiso. However, be warned that the restaurant is atrocious. We waited two hours for simple fare (like spaghetti with meat sauce) with kids as young as 3. Most of the kids and their parents had left by the time the so-called food came, and simply skipped dinner. I stayed with my youngest, and were presented with near-frozen pasta after the long wait. We sent it back, only to be served with a bill for the complete amount. Will not be going back.

Very nice hotel that delivered exactly what we wanted. It is located near the waterfront, affords excellent views of the port and is a perfect place to rest over before boarding your cruise ship which is very near. To go "up town" you would need to take a cab. The hotel is modern and our room was large, spotlessly clean, had a mini bar, safe & excellent wi-fi. The bathroom had a bath with a strong hot shower, lots of clean fluffy towels & a nice array of complimentary toiletries. The staff were courteous and extremely knowledgeable on all things Valparaiso. We ate one evening dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very tasty - good well presented range of dishes made with fresh ingredients delivered at a reasonable price. The breakfast offered good variety. A very nice hotel at a very good price.

Arrived early afternoon and checked out the following morning to board a cruise ship. Located extremely close to the cruise terminal.
Lunches and dinners are wonderful. Great service, lots of waiters, large portions, the food tastes great and fresh. No need to eat anywhere else if staying at this hotel.

We spent 2 nights at the Diego de Almagro Valparaiso Hotel over New Years Eve, 2012. The hotel is fairly new, so the rooms are modern and clean. We had a view overlooking Valparaiso bay. We could see all the way down to Vina Del Mar from our window! The room was large and had a mini-fridge. We watched the New Years fireworks display on the roof of the hotel. The staff provided the guests with masks, hats and other festive things to celebrate the New Year, which was a nice touch! Breakfast was included in the price and was tasty.
The hotel is located in a great area, walking distance to the main square and to the quaint neighborhoods nestled on the hills. Be sure to take advantage of the many funiculars that will take you up the hill to the neat restaurants and colorful homes. Valparaiso is a unique city and Diego de Almagro Valparaiso hotel is a great place to stay as you explore this neat city.

We arrived after the worst trip from Mendoza, so we expected some quiteness and a good hotel room, and that is exactly what we got. Very nice hotel. Beautiful bedroom overlooking Valparaiso. Pretty decent breakfast. Correct service. I would definetely come back if I ever go back to Chile.

Our friends chose this hotel for its water views and easy access to transportation. By US standards it is not a 4 star hotel, more like a 3, but very good for our purposes. The room we had was spacious and the view was perfect -- uninterrupted water view of the entire area from Con Con to the Valpo port. The beds were comfortable and our bathroom was large. The rooms have a mini bar and locking safe, which was good. Another plus was the air conditioning, which we did need. Our room had a lot of street traffic noise and after hours people noise and zealous honking taxis at 5 am. Our friends had a city side room which was much quieter. The breakfast was standard fare. We did not use the beautiful pool and exercise room. Nice to know it's all available. Rooms were pricey but I'd probably stay here again, for the view and the ease of the location.

Room Tip: City side rooms are quieter, but water side views are fantastic.
