“An experience worth having”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

My husband and I visited the restaurant on a busy Friday night and truly enjoyed the experience. The deco is purposefully rustic modern, the type of food was surprising (we were welcomed by the waiter with a horse cevishe!) and the overall presentation of the food was great. If you go, please try the mixed starter (a degustation of all the options available) which is really interesting and very well served. The only let down was the main course selection as I didnt think our horse or veal were as well flavored as we hoped it would, however still very very tasty. Overall: well worth the visit!

“Worthy of the high rating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

I took a group of 9 people to Peumayen on our first night in Santiago. I booked the reservation via email (using Google translate, as my Spanish is terrible!!) When we got there, the table was wating for us. The waiter did a great job of explaining all of the foods and how they relate to Chilean traditions. Everyone at our table was blown away by the unique experience. Don't forget to taste on of their Pisco Sours while you're there!!

“Perfect balance between creativity, rescuing chilean tradition, unknow flavours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

we were invited to discover a new concept. It was indeed a success. From service to explanation, very good. it is a fantastic way to enhanced such a strong tradition that chile has and that somehow does not highlight. not like many other new concept restaurant where they serve you almost nothing and few efforts for a big bill. This is a rescue of a cuisine and flavors. It is ode to Chile from north to south. It is so nice to feel all the efforts that are made to make you discover tastes and culture. Same conclusion for wine: not usual big wine companies. A set of small vineyard

“Absolutely Stunning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best, meal of our lives--this place has it all. The service. The food. And the unique factor. We read other reviews and wanted to see if Peumayen lived up to the hype. It certainly did (and more!).

We arrived for our reservation--the staff was very courteous, gave us a table that we could wait at (which was for a larger group) and even provided a free pisco for our wait. That was already more than they had to do as we were a little late. The ambiance was also very nice and romantic but not too fancy.

Not long after, we began our meal. The complimentary bread plate (which takes you from northern Chile to southern Chile) is an experience in itself--tasty and beats any "bread" one can have at a restaurant! Explaining it would not give it justice; you just have to try it for yourself.

We got the appetizer plate to share; it was stunning both in appearance and in taste. It featured some less common ingredients such as tongue and rabbit, but it was phenomenal and each dish, whether you love it or not, was unique.

We then went for the entrees; we ordered horse steak and oxtail. Both were prepared to perfection. The oxtail, in particular, was so tender the meat literally melted in our mouths; absolutely recommended. It was also nice to hear about why certain dishes were offered--the waiter explained why horse steak was eaten in Chile which made the dinner even more interesting!

Even the grilled vegetables that came as sides were amazing--the taste of a little piece of zucchini tasted like the flavor of 100. We then went for the dessert sampler to share--also very good, but not sure if we'd go for it again (as the other parts of the meal were phenomenal and we were quite full!).

Throughout this, the service was great and they have both English and Spanish speakers on staff, in case you'd like the translations! Beyond that, the waiter saw how much we liked the zucchini, he told the chef, and they just placed some more on our table. Amazing.

Beyond this being a perfect meal, what made it stand out even more, was that for the type of meal it was, with such rare ingredients and fine service, for all of that food (and a bottle of wine), including tip, it was less than $60USD a person. We don't know where else you'd even get such a unique meal, but a meal half as good would cost double or even triple anywhere else.

Even if you are a bit of a picky eater, we'd recommend you give this experience a try as you won't regret it!
