This cultural center is locally referred to as the GAM, and was one of the highlights of our trip through Chile. For anyone pursuing art galleries or Chilean artesans while in Santiago, this should be at the top of the list. In pursuit of an art gallery zone in Santiago, we came across this new modern building on the edge of Lastarria. There was a long line of youngsters outside waiting to purchase Lade Gaga concert tickets, while inside were a couple of amazing exhibitions. The exhibitions rotate every six months or so, and while we were there we saw a UNESCO artisan exhibit of indigenous Chilean crafts, a photography exhibit, and an architecture exhibition of about 50 recent modern Chilean projects. This one building provided an amazing vista of Chilean arts; past and present. During the month, we noted that the GAM was hosting music, dance, and theater performances as well. This is a gem that Santiago and Chile should be proud of. I must see in Santiago for culture junkies!!
