“great location, quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2012

This is a very nice base from which to explore Santiago. Subway is a block away. Room are nice. Staff are helpfull and pleasant. Breakfast is nothing to write home about but this seems to be standard in Chile. Room are clean and neighborhood is quiet. We slept the window open. The best is the cafe next door! great place for a late night drink. Owner recognized use the second night... this is a quiet neighborhood place...it close around midnight or 1am.

Room Tip: give exact address to taxi... Ourshad to back up in street to find it...

I stayed in this hotel 2 years ago while travelling in South America.

It is a basic hotel close to a 2-3 star in Ireland. If you could picture it, it would remind you of a hotel room from the 70's or 80's but once you get over that it's fine. It clean and the room was cleaned every day. It has a great location near the university and mainline metro station. Staff are friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. Free use of two computers in the reception area came in handy as there is no WI-FI.

It was quite both internally and externally while we stayed for the four nights. Great value for money. For two girls travelling on their own I felt very safe in this hotel.

Stayed here for 4 nights in Jan 2012. We paid £50 per night and found it to be good value for money. The location is central, rooms clean, breakfast OK and two computers free to use for guests. The staff were very helpful. It is a great place to stay when you arrive in Santiago after a long flight. A bus from the airport will drop you off not too far away from the hotel (at Los Heroes) and it is just a short taxi ride or a 10min walk from there along the Alameda turning right when you get to Serrano. The main Plaza is a 10min walk away and if you want a free walking tour around the centre of Santiago meet the guide outside the cathedral at 10am. Well worth it.

We booked the Apartment Annex as it was advertised as new and looked a bit less tired than the Hotel.......Bad decision. The kitchen and bathroom were clean ( thank goodness) but the rest of the apt dirty...filthy rugs, drapes, windows etc. It was unbelievably noisy so much so we could not hear ourselves talk with the windows open. With the windows closed it was hot and stuffy.
Although not in any hotel rooms the Hotel's common areas were as tired and worn and dusty as the so called "new" apartments. We did not find the hotel staff helpful. They tried to charge us more than the reservation agreed to price and were quite impatient with simple questions.
We did like the location so I checked out another hotel in the area and would recommend it.

PLAZA ROSALES is just across the street on Londres. I looked at one room and found it large, spotless although rather minimal which I happen to like. The rate I was quoted was
$ 60.00 US a night ( less than the Vegas rates). The rate quoted included wifi, internet and breakfast. The young man at the desk the two time I dropped in was very helpful, friendly and spoke excellent english. I would certainly book there if I return to Santiago. Their email is plazarosales@gruporosales.cl
Enjoy Santiago. It's a charming city although 6 museums were closed during our visit.Three due to earthquake renos and 3 for " summer holidays" ! Very disappointing.

The Vegas Hotel is in a very attractive part of the Central part of Santiago about a block from The University of Chile and one block from the metro. It is on one of several streets designed to look like Paris several hundred years ago. The streets are stone. They have many pedestrians and few automobiles. The hotel has been designated as a National Historical Site. It is immaculately maintained and the people who work there are most helpful and diligent.

The issue that arises in some other reviews is that of noise. We chose a room facing the street. It was spacious and had a sitting area in a cupola. One could certainly hear people on the street and one could hear activity at the nearby sidewalk café but the noise subsided by 10:00pm at the latest, even on the weekend. Other rooms do not face onto the street and I presume that they would be absolutely quiet. There is no undue noise from any other activity in the hotel in our experience.

In short, this hotel is very highly recommended because of the excellent service and very reasonable rates. The location is superb and is walk to nearly everything. Noise is not an issue these days in our experience.

Room Tip: If you are worried about noise, pick a room above the first floor and not facing the street.

Our family of three stayed at Hotel Vegas for 3 nights and were quite pleased. The service at the hotel is excellent, despite a language barrier for us (we don't really speak Spanish). They went as far as to lend us a power adaptor and call ahead to another hotel on the coast and make a reservation for us. The service was top notch.

The location is right downtown, with lots going on and the price is pretty reasonable. It got a little loud, but things seemed to quiet down by midnight or before depending on the night. There is a restaurant directly below the hotel, which had good food (much more choice than just french fries and steak sandwiches). In addition, the included breakfast at the hotel is basic but fine.

Our one complaint was the room was stuffy, which may either be the old drapes or just the air in general. For that reason we didn't spend too much extra time in the room. Other than that, we were pleased.

Room Tip: Room 21 had it's windows above the restaurant, which meant some patio noise until about midnight...
