This hotel is located in a quiet pocket of downtown Santiago. If you wish to stay downtown, I don't think you could do any better than stay in this charming old, but well-maintained hotel. The price we paid for a double room with a bay window opening on a lovely street was $79 in March 2011, a real bargain that included a reasonably good breakfast. Also, use of free internet. However, all the good restaurants seem to be located in the Bella Vista area, so you may wish to consider booking a hotel in that area instead of downtown.

The hotel has a vintage feel like your grandma's house. It was very quiet and the location is perfect for access to downtown Santiago. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful. They provide use of their computers in the lobby and that turned out to be very helpful as we were traveling without a computer or blackberry. The restobar next door was a great spot for food and drinks on the cobble stone street.
The room was huge and it was clean enough but I get a little grossed out by random hairs and there were a few of them in the shower and on the bathroom wall! The bed was comfortable. Our room was surprisingly quiet for being in the city. The breakfast was just ok.
We used the laundry service and they laundry came back in a matter of hours, clean and smelling good with a bonus pair of socks (sorry to whomever lost your socks, we didn't notice it until getting back to NY!)

Hotel Vegas is a well run establishment that caters to the middle price range traveller, it is centrally located on a cobble street in Santiago. There are several restaurants in the area that have good food at reasonable prices and you can walk to the main attractions in the old part of the city. What is interesting about the location is that is directly across from the House of the Disappeared where Pinochet's secret police interrogated and executed anyone suspected of being anti-Pinochet. Look for the dark black cobble stones on the street, they have the names of the victims carved into them so that they are not forgotten. Other than that it is a very quiet and peaceful street in the center of a very busy city.

We stayed there just a couple of nights and it was very good. As it was high season, I wouldn`t say it was a budget option (US$ 75), but it was definetly good. If I`m in Santiago again, I`d stay there again. It`s in a unique area of the city, called the Paris-Londres area, close to Plaza de Armas and metro station.

An old but clean hotel in Bario Paris Londres. No real criticisms, except the wireless only extended to the lobby, which was frequently packed with guests and their laptops, and there wasn't enough bandwidth for all of us. The room was a decent size and the bathroom was good with an effective shower. The inclusive breakfast was pretty good for this kind of place.

Not completely sold on the location though - it felt a bit cut off and at night there was very little open in the surrounding area. When I returned to Santiago a few nights later I moved to a different barrio.
