“Interesting house and Commentary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

I didn't really know much about Neruda, but my son loves his poetry so we decided to go on a tour. We had just done the Free Walking Tour of Santiago and it finished outside La Chascona. We went in and were able to join the next tour.
Neruda's life story is fascinating and our guide did a good job of telling us about in English. The unusual design of the house is based on boats and is very interesting. Seeing the huge shoes and hearing the story about them...Well it's really worth a visit.

“An Interesting Peek Into Neruda's Life”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Although not my favorite Neruda house (I thought La Sebastiana was the most interesting), La Chascona is no doubt an interesting and educational journey into Neruda's life. Admission is by tour (Spanish and English) only, which is something I disliked (visitors to La Sebastiana are allowed to roam about the property at will). Call ahead for tour reservations.

“Pleasant suprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

We knew he was a famous poet but not much more until we took a tour here. Fascinating, so much to learn. Our English speaking guide was excellent. Folks who are not able to climb stairs and handle some interesting navigation should think twice.

“What a charming house!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

I don't know anything about Pablo Neruda. For me, what made this so interesting was the charming space this very creative man created (he designed the house and interiors). I have toured many, many historic homes, but this one is the most charming ever. You can't just wander around: you have to take a tour (they offer them in various languages; I got English). The tour takes 20-30 minutes. The cost is 4,000 pesos (about $9) and is well worth it.

There is a cafeteria that does not advertise its prices. It is a total rip-off. (Cup of coffee is 2,000 pesos.)

The house is very close to the funicular that takes you up San Cristobal Hill.

“A great insight into Neruda's life”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

A really interesting guided tour. You get to know more about Neruda's life, interests, collections, etc... I took the tour in spanish, but it can be in english or french and the tour takes around one hour. You should make a reservation in advance, but it's not a must.
