Even if you do not know Neruda, it is good to know one of his houses. This one, in Santiago, is very close to Cerro San Cristobal, and it is a good option to combine the 2 visits the same day.The house contains many objects of Neruda's collections. There are also some portraits of him, fragments of poems, books, furniture and the lot. The inside of the house looks like a boat and there are parts of it spread throughout the garden. The visit tours inside and outside three different constructions where the rooms are located. It is forbidden to take photos inside the house.
Some of the rooms had to be renovated after it was taken in during dictatorship time. We had a very good Spanish speaking guide, who gave us detailed information about Neruda's habits. As we were a group of Brazilians, he mentioned many famous Brazilians who were friends with Neruda. The tours take 30 minutes in general, and we were lucky to join one without a waiting list.
