This was my first visit to Santiago, Chile. When I was leaving for Chile for delivering a 3 week training course, I was very concerned about how I will manage my food. People close to me know too well that for me, the first thing I look for in any city is Indian food. Like any other visitor, I checked for good Indian restaurants in Trip advisor and was very surprised to see that an Indian restaurant ranked Number one amongst 830 restaurants in Santiago. With a very proud feeling and a very hungry tummy (just landed in Santiago after sixteen hours of flight from London), I entered The Jewel of India. While I was busy looking at one of the best decors I have come across in an Indian restaurant, out came Mr. Rakesh (owner of the restaurant) with a very warm smile on his face and I felt as if my I have returned home after a long tour and my dad is receiving me at the entrance.
Rakesh uncle (that’s how I address him these days) came to me and took seat on the table in front of me. The whole place was packed with guests and in spite of this, he made it a point to sit with me for 10 minutes, making me comfortable and understanding my taste and suggesting some dishes. Everything came straight from his heart. Then the food arrived on my table and from start to finish, it was just STUPENDOUS..FABOULOUS...HEAVEN. The starter Macchi Tikka (fish tikka), Tadka Dal (yellow lentils) , Ghar ki Roti (Indian Phulka) and Aloo Gobhi......God you have to taste them to believe me. Till then, I was under the impression, there were no better cooks in the world than my wife and mom. It all changed on my first visit to the Jewel of India.
It has been 3 weeks since my arrival and every day after work, I just wait for my quick trip from Sheraton hotel (where I am staying) to the Jewel. It gives you the same warmth, happiness and excitement you get when you think of returning home after a very hard day's work.
The name JEWEL OF INDIA....is not just a name...they are indeed a collection of jewels..The Chefs, the Stewards, the Manager , support staff and a very friendly father and owner looking after the employees and guests. This is the only restaurant in the world where the owner receives every guest at the entrance, suggests the best tables, get them some outstanding, authentic and out of the world Indian food and see them off with a hug and a smile when finished......don’t just read this and get excited...GO FOR IT GUYS….HOME AWAY FROM HOME IN SANTIAGO
