“Cozy oasis In Santiago”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2012

This is a cozy boutique hotel that I wish I could have spent more time in. The service is very prompt and always with a smile. Anything that I asked for arrived within 5 minutes or less. The breakfast is good and the small restaurant and pool area are very pleasing.
There are many good restaurants nearby although it is a little dark for a couple of blocks before you get there. I would stay there again when I go next time.

Room Tip: Don't book the smaller standard rooms. They really are small.

We only managed a night in Santiago and wished we had more time. The LaStarria is in a perfect location for a bit of sightseeing, restaurants and bars. The hotel were lovely and upgraded us to a larger room. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the furniture, drapes and bathroom all high end. I loved the vase of fresh flowers and the little touches like a weather forecast put next to your bed of an evening. Breakfast was lovely and we wished we'd have spent more time just hanging out on the terrace. The only down side and this is very picky the hotel has a few rough edges like loading up the lift with bed linens and as the hotel is a conversion the sound proofing from the hallways to the bedrooms isnt great but didnt bother us

2 night stay at the Lastarria. Our first time in Santiago. The hotel was in an excellent location, walking distance to major attractions, cafes, restaurants. Our room was fantastic, with a veranda overlooking the patio/pool area. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, the bathroom...massive and luxurious. The staff were first class, friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was faultless. nothing was too much trouble for the staff. On our last day, we had a late flight departure time..they arranged for us to move to a smaller room which enabled us to enjoy the day knowing we could have a rest and shower before the long trip home. All in alll we couldnt have asked for more.

We stayed at the Lastarria for one night en-route to Brazil. Situated at the edge of the old part of Santiago (Centro) near the Catholic University, it is close to a Metro stop, the lovely little Cerro San Cristóbal (a hill park with good views of the city), markets and museums. Within 5 minutes walk there are many bars and restaurants (varying from cheap and cheerful to fine dining). Some reviewers have suggested the area is tatty and rundown, but we did not find this. Apart from a bit of graffiti the area was clean and well maintained and we felt safe walking around the streets looking for a restaurant.

The hotel is a little gem. It has only been operating for a year or so. It is extremely clean and well appointed. Our twin room was a good size with everything one would expect. The beds were comfortable, linen clean and in good condition, the bathroom was spotless with no mould and the whole room smelt fresh and clean. There is a small enclosed garden off the breakfast room / coffee lounge with a swimming pool that seemed well maintained (we didn't use it). Given Santiago's arid dusty climate the garden was refreshingly green and cool. The breakfast (overlooking the garden) was adequate, given the small number of guests the limited range was understandable, but it would have been nice to have the option of a few more hot dishes. Staff spoke excellent English and were very welcoming and obliging. They readily arranged a reliable airport transfer for a reasonable price. We booked over the Internet (room and initial transfer) and had no problems. One outstanding feature was the wifi. In contrast to many other hotels, including the expensive chain establishments, the system was a pleasure to use. Signal strength was excellent, connection (with the supplied key) simple, and there was no drop in speed. Well done!

Would we stay there again? Absolutely.

We spent a total of 8 nights over two separate stays in Lastarria during a recent visit to Santiago to visit our son. From our first day, when we arrived early and the room was ready for us, to the last, we were extremely imptressed by the friendly and helpful attitiude of all of the staff - front desk, room service, restaurant/breakfast area. Everyone there treats the hotel and the guests as if it is their own family and we could see that reflected in every interaction. When we had a problem with travel the hotel front desk and manager jumped to our aid and managed to re-arange everything for us, so our trip cpould continue unaffected - we could not have done that without their help - in Spanish.
The quality of beds and rooms was excellent and the hotel was an oasis of calm at the end of a busy day in the City. It is also an excellent location to walk to Centro, catch the metro or walk in the parks and is surrounded by quite a few restaurants. We would recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to Santiago without hesitation.

This charming boutique hotel is located down a quiet side street a short walk away from major attractions, restaurants and nightlife. Apart from creaky floorboards, the place is quietly classy and you are guaranteed a good night's rest in the comfortable bed with oversize pillows. Complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea and internet are a big bonus. The staff are very friendly and speak english. Not cheap!

Room Tip: Choose the suites.

I spent 3 nights at the Lastarria-- the experience was just wonderful. The first day I spent in the Providencia area (where the hotel is located) My husband and I walked to the Gabriela Mistral's Center; as we looked to the inside of the building we noticed a blonde guy who looked familiar. It was Sir Richard Bramson, owner of Virgin Airlines, promoting his cell phone company.
We also discovered numerous libraries, restaurants, bars, and boutique clothing stores. I was so pleased that there were numerous bus stops and metro stations at walking distance from the hotel.
Their breakfast/tea room area is just so perfect. And the closeness to the bohemian BellaVista was a special treat.--
If I go back to Santiago, Chile I will stay at the Lastarria--I love it!!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the pool and floors can be creaky, on some of the rooms.
