“Surpassed all expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

We spent a wonderful day touring the Casablanca valley. The area is unique and they produce some high quality cool climate varietals. Each winery we visited was truly distinctive from each other and all very impressive. Each winery does very limited production and concentrates on the art of wine making. Jose, our host, was friendly, informative, and very knowledgeable about the various wine growing regions of Chile and their varietals. Jose and our driver Miguel picked us up at our hotel in the morning and were able to drop us off at the airport in the evening for a late flight back to the US. Jose went the extra yard personally driving back to the airport to deliver a forgotten pair of eyeglasses. The whole day was a terrific experience, the reservation process was easy, the quality of the tour was world class, the wines were excellent, the lunch was an epicurean delight, and our host defined guest service excellence. We would highly recommend Uncorked Wine Tours to anyone traveling to Santiago that wants to enjoy the wine making experience.

“Deserves all those great reviews!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

We had a strenuous trip along Chile with lots of travel days and little sleep. We arrived in Santiago at noon on Sat Jan 12, with an overnight stay and a long day to kill before leaving for the US at 11pm on Sun night. I decided that a day of wine tasting would be just right.

In Napa, California you just drive along one main road and stop into any winery that catches your eye. Very, very few require a prior reservation. But my minimal research made it look like I would need to prearrange tours of all but the most commercial wineries outside of Santiago. It also looked like there'd be a good amount of driving involved. I decided to let someone else do the work for me. Emails for information from Uncorked were promptly answered. The plan was to checkout of our hotel and spend the day on the wine tour, then have dinner and taxi to the airport. But then the airline recommended that we arrive 3 hours prior. So I asked if we could drag our luggage along so we could head to the airport without returning to our hotel to retrieve bags. They said that would be fine (possibly because we travel with carry-on only, not giant suitcases). I decided the prompt response was a good indication that all those excellent TripAdvisor reviewers might be onto something.

The online reservation tool worked just fine (50% deposit required). We'd asked our Santiago concierge to verify the pick-up time. She told us that she's spoken to Uncorked and that they had sent us an email.... but I'd lost my cell phone and didn't have the email. So my husband sent an email on Sat afternoon to determine the pickup time, which was also quickly answered...

Sun morning we packed up and went out to the front of our hotel for a 9:15 pickup. A minivan arrived with 2 couples, a single guy, the driver and David our tour guide. We threw luggage in the back, and settled into the comfy (though seats would be narrow for larger folks or if at full capacity) van. There was a driver's seat and passenger seat, then 2 rows of 3 seats, and the back row held 4, so we all had some extra space around us.

The ride to Casablanca Valley went quickly. David gave us some information along the way.

We started with Quintay which included a very tour with great info about the valley, the vineyard itself, and their process and a nice tasting inside the cask building with comparisons of wines from the high, mid and low areas of the valley. Then to Emiliana's organic vineyard which offered an outdoor tour focused on their growing process, then concluded with a seated tasting of 2 reds & 2 whites with tasty herbal cheeses. Then to House Casa del Vino for lunch with wine pairings. (see photo of the tasting menu - dsregard the prices as all food/wine was included in the tour price), followed by a casual strolling tour (with more wine) of the grounds and the winery. We ended up sampling a special pisco sour in their tasting room/gift shop. We were all happily sated on delicious food and wine by then, so it was a cheerful ride home.

As an unexpected treat, David very kindly dropped us at the airport rather than take us all the way back into Santiago where we would have had to get right back into a cab and retrace our route. Our final luxurious day was a wonderful way to end our otherwise backpacking/trekking type trip. (by the way, we wore our "nice" hiking clothes and didn't stand out too badly)

Thanks to everyone at Uncorked for arranging a super excursion!

By the way, come in late Mar- late Apr for their harvest season.

“A wine tour unlike any other....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

We have visited many wineries all over the world - as had the 5 other folks who joined us on the Chile Uncorked excursion to Casablanca Valley - but we all agreed that this tour was unique and not to be missed. Our guide, Jose, was exceptionally knowledgeable about the region and viticulture. All of the representatives from the wineries spoke excellent English and contributed enormously to the experience with their friendly enthusiasm. As was mentioned before, Bodegas Re is a gem among wineries - go to Santiago just to experience this place (and drink their incredible wine!) The 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings at the end of the day was also a delight - great food in the excellent company of our tour companions. This really is one of those experiences that is worth every cent - it will give you an authentic insight into the energy and innovation that defines Chile these days. If you weren't wowed by Chile before, I think you'll be won-over to the country's charms by the last lushish pour on this memorable tour.

“Just a perfect day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Along with everyone else reviewing this tour company I can give only rave reports. Picked up at 9 at my hotel, there were four of us with guide Patricia. She is so knowledgeable and informative! We went on the Casablanca/San Antonio tour and I would highly recommend it. Three very different and unique wineries and an amazing lunch. Back to the hotel at 5:30 and I wished I'd had another day to spend with them. Worth every $
