I booked a 7 day custom red wine tasting and culinary experience with Liz Caskey in Chile in December, 2012. I toured some of the best wineries in Chile, all of which were private tours. All my lunch experiences were some of the best I have had, including two privately prepared meals as well as a morning spent with Liz shopping for fresh vegetables and seafood, that Liz then prepared for me at her home in Santiago. Both of my English speaking guides were very professional and were very familiar with each of the wineries we visited. In addition to my guides, Liz provided a very good driver each day, driving some of the best Mercedes vans I saw in Chile. All my accommodations were first class in smaller boutique hotels. Before my journey, Liz's team sent me a questionnaire that helped outline what I was looking for in my trip. Liz's team followed up with a preliminary itinerary and then discussions to work out final details. The result of this was a trip that was truly designed to make it the best possible experience I could have hoped for. If I ever go back to Chile, Peru, Argentina or Uruguay again I would be sure to contact Liz.

“Consistently Great”

Two years ago we used LIz Caskey's services for tours in Chile. These were day wine tours out of Santiago and were excellent.

This fall we would be in Buenos Aires and because of our experience with Liz's company in Chile we contacted her office about a day tour of the city. The process was comprehensive in that we provided information about our interests and other details and Ellie developed a custom tour. And the payment process was easily accomplished.

The itinerary was a morning tour of the city led by a guide with a car and driver. She took us to key locations of the city and provided comprehensive background on every location as well as points in between. We would leave our car and driver at each location, tour the area, and join up with the car to proceed to the next place. Our guide's local knowledge was very evident when we visited La Boca as this could be a difficult place to navigate. She also helped us with getting the right quality and price on some souvenirs. Her knowledge of the history of Buenos Aires and the political scene was outstanding.

The second part of the tour was a private lunch with at a vinoteca with a sommelier who also owns a wine shop. This was very informative and we had a great lunch with wine pairings. After that leisurely lunch we joined up with her car and driver and went to the recently restored Teatro Colon. And following this we were taken to our hotel. A full day.

My usual practice is to get a guide book and figure things out myself when touring foreign cities. I didn't attempt this in Buenos Aires for several reasons. It is a very large city, I don't speak Spanish, and the incidence of petty crime, and some not so petty, is high. And our time was limited. Liz Caskey's organization put together an excellent tour and enabled us to experience this amazing city in a safe and secure way. Her tours are priced at a premium, but there is real value throughout.

“Could Not Be More Unprofessional”

We attempted to book an Argentina trip with Ms. Caskey. We had agreed to the itinerary she had proposed but raised some questions about the terms of the contract. She answered those questions to our satisfaction and we confirmed the trip via email. She told us that payment was required within 4 days to secure reservations at hotels that otherwise would be sold out. We therefore booked our flights and attempted to pay her invoice in accordance with her instructions. We established a Paypal account and that we would be invoiced through our Paypal account that day.

She did not respond in a timely manner but subsequently emailed that she was not going to proceed with the booking because we had initially questioned some of the terms of the contract. She emailed us that she would forward the hotel reservation information to us and that we should pay the hotels directly. She subsequently sent the reservation information for some of the hotels but canceled reservations at two properties, one of which was sold out.

Ms. Caskey charged $300 ($150 per person) as a nonrefundable trip planning fee that was to be applied against any tour booked with her. She did not refund the fee.

We subsequently booked a trip utilizing a Buenos Aires based travel agent who was more knowledgeable about Argentina, provided us with a better itinerary, better hotel options and a better choice of sightseeing options.

We were certainly very disappointed that this client gave such a negative review of our company without directly addressing us first. Since he preferred to make his particular case public, through this source, we feel we have the legitimate right to make public also some important details that he omitted.

We began work on his itinerary in July 2012 when he contacted us about his trip to Argentina in mid-January 2013. We had two initial 30-40 minute phone consultations on separate occasions with him to discuss specifics along with providing the skeleton itinerary and information on how we work with our Travel Consulting Fee before proceeding. During the subsequent months, we worked through four versions of his itinerary, entailing considerable work with several reorganizations of dates, suggested flights, bookings (and rebookings) of hotels blocked on his behalf, along with additional phone consults ranging from 30-40 minutes to address his questions for each new version of the itinerary.

After all this work, in the next-to-last version, he began to question our Terms & Conditions and cancellation policies; these are clearly stated on our website and were referred to him from the beginning. He cited he could book the hotels directly with different cancellation policies that were more favorable if he decided to cancel. We explained to him that with our wholesaler rates included in his tour package, along with other contracted activities, have different cancellation policies than simply booking the hotels as a direct customer. We suggested, as we do with all our clients, that he take out a Travel Insurance policy for a nominal amount. He did not want to do this and asked that we consider altering our company's policies governing terms & conditions.

When he finally approved the final version of the itinerary via e-mail, with another set of changes and additional hotel nights added, given the considerable back and forth and time elapsed between each e-mail communication, one of the hotels pre-payment deadline was due. We had advised him of this deadline previous to the date. Only the morning on which payment was due did he confirm the final itinerary and indicate wanting to move forward. As he cited, he did not have a Pay Pal account so in the course of setting this up, on a Friday afternoon, we did not receive his confirmation until after business hours (our office is not open weekends). We spoke with the hotel manager directly to extend his reservation as a courtesy until we could arrange payment of funds early the next week.

In the interim, this client contacted this particular hotel directly to make his own reservation. He emailed us on Monday notifying of this and cited that booking directly did not have the same cancellation policies nor terms and conditions as we do as direct wholesalers; once again questioning our cancellation policies.

On Monday morning upon arrival at the office, we subsequently explained again why our terms & conditions differ from booking as a direct consumer as part of a total package with additional third party services. After evaluating the situation, he showed he was not completely comfortable nor fully in agreement with our terms and conditions but would book the trip. At this point, and especially considering his uncomfortable sensation, we felt it was in everyone's best interest not to move forward and let the passengers directly manage the hotel bookings and other trip components so they could have the cancellation policies that best suited them.

After giving due notice of this decision, the next day we changed all the reservations over to him and sent him a detailed email with the dates, reservation codes, names holding the reservation, and advised that there were two of the five hotels that required us to cancel the reservations as the operator/wholesaler first so the client could book the same rooms directly. We double-checked with these two hotels and both confirmed they had space available before cancelling our reservations for him. We directly advised all hotels of moving the reservations over to them.

With all this invested time and effort, after sending him this information on November 13, 2012, and additionally having provided him with all our suggestions and alternatives for his own use, we never received any response nor follow up from this client until he posted this "review" on Tripadvisor.

“First Class Food and Wine in Chile”

We just returned from a phenomenal trip planned by Liz. Each day we were amazed by the experiences and were worried if the next day would compare. But as each day passed, we were wowed once again by the incredible food and wine coupled with extraordinary accomodations. This was our first wine trip to Chile and we simply could not have wished for a better experience. Thanks to Liz and her incredible staff.

“Chile's big reds”

We had a great driver who had to function in a great deal of traffic and drivers not attending to their driving. Andea our guide was very informative and friendly She knew about the wine we tried. We had a great Sunday with a good lunch outside. The whole tour started with our great contact with Ellie,who help us every step of the way and Liz who kept informed of any changes that came up
